I'm having a similiar problem at idle - As far as the radio blinking, I've noticed that if I have the dash dimmer switch (not sure if thats what its called, but hey..) at anything but at the brightest (mainly around the 2/3rds range) that it sometimes blinks, and sometimes doesn't come on at all.. This includes my dash lights, not just the radio. A quick push to full brightness resolves this issue tho.

Have you noticed any drop in radiator coolant? If you read the post I made (look for 1998 Ford Explorer Idle subject), someone replied with a possible solution.
