is my mivec working???

Dear all.

i have a mitsubishi fto gpx. Im not sure if the mivec is working or not. When i drive it in tiptronic mode, first gear and second gear seems to be extremely weak, third gear is more stronger, however i cant get a good launch. What rev does the mivec actually kick in? Also, i try to redline it on gear 2 but it always seems to cut out around the 5-6000 rmp mark, and the engine makes an exhuasted sound, so i change gear to 3!!!

Does this mean my mivec has been clipped or something???
