ECU reprogramming?

Hey i've read somewhere that you just take out the fuse for the ECU on an Integra(98) after doing mods to your car and it will reset your ECU to recognize the mods or atleast change memory to suit the mods... anyone hear of this?

Yes that is correct.

Doing this will not hurt the car or any part of it at all will it? Just wanna make sure from people who have done it before, before i go and do it!

No it will not hurt anything, if you have a stock radio you will have to put in the security code, but that is all.

Hold out on fumbling around inside your ECU unless you are completely confident in opening it up and performing brain surgery. Don't forget there are people who specialize in such work. Look for a local tuner group and find out if they have the capability to reprogram your ECU to your specifications or know of some shop that can. It may cost but is it really worth being risky/cheap when it comes to the car you love? Never forget how much the car initially cost you and dont do anything that does not do that price justice.

This is good advice but I have a feeling you did not read not 1 of the posts in this thread He is asking about reseting the ecu.

Fortunately I am literate! If he is talking about reseting why did he name the thread "ECU Reprogramming"? But in all seriousness why spend so much on bolt ons and then not get the ECU done correctly. It is a little bit more intricate than an intake or exhaust.

I agree 100% with you on this. It is important to have someone who knows what they are doing reprogram your ecu. For most people just looking at the fuel and ignition maps in a program like hondata's or crome, uberdata etc would absolutely confuse them. It is also very important not to buy the chips that are already programed or send your ecu off to be rerprogrammed, because this will not have the right fuel and ignition maps that your car may need. I could go on for a long time about this topic but why? Most people just see "Skunk 2" chip or "Mugen" chip or "spoon" chip etc and think that it will help their car but they are wrong. In order to get good results from a chip you need to have someone with a wideband and a dyno if possible to tune the car with a rom imulator then burn you a chip. This is the only way of getting the exact setting on the maps that you need.

And like HTRtech said if you don't know what you are doing then stay out of the ecu!!

That was the first post. As far as he's concerned that is reprogramming his ECU, but to all of us its just resetting it. Like you said though(and WHTTEG too), if he wants to take it a few steps further and reprogram it, then don't be cheap, get it done right.
