I got a 91 civic sedan.I want to throw a integra Ls engine w/ manual tranny. If anyone has done it or know some one who has done it or just swithed over to manual on a 88-91 civic please reply. If that iz possible after i switch engines i going to throw a vtec head "gsr' on it.It should produce 190 hp but in my light civic it will do more damage.

Re: can u switch from automatic to manual transmisson?

yes...you can do an auto to manual swap - they are not cheap if someone does it for you...but other than a pedal set, cutting a hole in the firewall for the cable, you should be about set
CWBETB has done the auto/manual conversion - he has way more details than i do.

Welcome to the board

Re: can u switch from automatic to manual transmisson?

You dont have to cut a hole for the clutch cable....there is already a hole in the firewall. I would explain but: http://hometown.aol.com/jrmupzaii/auto2man.html does a pretty good job (and wow look at that it came from the FAQ at the top of the forum). Its a pretty straightforward swap with the worst part being the pedal assembly as you have to remove your dash to get it out / new on in.

Re: can u switch from automatic to manual transmisson?

ha..right...good point Jason
I'd hope he'd have a parts list or some shit.

Nice data on the firewall...I have removed a Civic pedal assembly and it is a pain, as noted above. I was pulling it from a wrecker yard, so i didn't have to be too careful, but you can't even access the bolts to remove it until the dash is out..

I'll make one up, peeps can add to it:

manual pedal assembly
clutch cable
linkage
shifter
manual console

this list assumes some more obvious things are taken into consideration like a manual tranny & ECU with the swap.
You'll also have the shift linkage since you are going to a b-series motor, and a d-series manual linkage wouldn't fit anyway

Re: can u switch from automatic to manual transmisson?

You will also need the rear tranny mount and the rear mount that attaches to the rear X-member as it is different. You will also need a starter from a manual tranny (along with both bolts), and if the engine doesnt come with the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate assembly you need the 6 flywheel bolts (as they are different than the manual) and the 6 clutch bolts. I ended up getting raped for $72 from Honda for the 12 of them. Covering up the holes left over from the auto shifter is also fun (I refused to use self taping metal sheetscrews so I put down a layer of metal and fiberglassed over it as a temporary solution till this summer). The only complaint I have is that the shifter feels loose (I can move it side to side 3-4" when its in gear), but it works and theres snow on the ground so theres nothing I can do about it. By the way, how loose does a stock shifter feel? Never driven stick before so I have nothing to compare it to.

Wut year LS motor?? 90+ or below???

You are going to need the pedal box, ecu, shift linkage, cluth cable, axles with intermediate shaft, and rewire everything. Let me tell ya, wiring is the b!t$h part.Oh yea you are going to need new motor mounts.

We took a 90dx crx automoatic and swapped in a JDM DOHC zc (official ZC not an ls block) with the DOHC tranny with an Si ECU.motor drop in was simple once we got the correct mounts from an Si but the wiring was anoyying. Took about 5 hours of wiring before it was started. only prob. we had was finding an intermediate shaft for the ZC. took awhile but finally found one at hasport motors.

I would also change all the basics before you put in the new motor I.E-
timing belt
plugs
wires
cap
rotor
thermostat
all gaskets (head,oil pan etc)
radiator hoses

Re: can u switch from automatic to manual transmisson?

The wiring is very simple, just follow the directions on fourthgenhatch.com . He made them even easier to understand. I am in the process of simplifying it even more. Oh, I followed his directions for MPFI and ZC swap (along with the auto to manual wiring that are in the link I posted) and it started the first time I turned the key.
