If you were going to choose between those 2 engines I would go with the LS becuase you can push like 10-12 pounds of boost on stock internals. With an ls/vtec your compression will rise because of the vtec head, so you will have to lower your compression with low compression pistons and all that other good stuff before you push more than about 8 pounds.

Re: which motor is better for boost

i have to disagree. i was reading up one day and i saw in import tuner's power pages, they did a ls/vtec. they then boosted both motors @ 10 psi (ls and ls/vtec) and the ls/vtec made over 50 more HP at the wheels. here is the link so you can see for yourself.

Re: which motor is better for boost

the LS/V will make more power, the LS will be FAR more reliable

Re: which motor is better for boost

well as far as reliability...once you affix a turbine to your engine and boost it 10psi...there goes your reliability regardless of the engine...but anyway I'd probably go with the frankenstein..but I'm gonna go throw shit in the game and pick something that wasn't one of the choices and that being a B18C1.

The classic example of "I don't know what i'm talking about, but I heard something in a magazine so i'll make something up that sounds reasonable in my head and tell this guy what to do" IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, DON'T GIVE A GUY ADVICE ON SOMETHING HE'S GOING TO SPEND MONEY ON!

Stock LS compression is 9.2:1. Compression with a B16 head would be 9.55:1, compression with a GSR head would be 9.73:1. Either of those are perfectly safe to run with 10 pounds of boost. The Vtec head flows a lot better, and will let you rev higher, and make a substantial amount more power. GSR's make more power stock and turbo for a reason, and the biggest reason is the head.
