boxster vs wrx

why would you buy a boxster over a wrx? I've never understood, why i see so many porsche boxsters out there, and so few wrx's. why o why can this be. Nearly half the price, looks pretty damn sweet i must say, (even next to a boxster) and the performance is more than worthy. If you have the cash to spend on a boxster, at least buy a 911. although more expensive, you got the extra cash, you may as well spend it.

So, what would YOU rather drive on the road as a city car?

Iman de las chicas

PS wouldn't it feel nice to pull up by a boxster in a wrx, and keep up with it? LOOK AT ME I SPENT 18 GRAND LESS THAN YOU! and looking just as fine. awww yeah yeah, im a loser

Re: boxster vs wrx

Same.

A Boxster is mid-engined and RWD, the perfect layout for a sports car. The WRX is ugly inside & out (imo). The WRX may be quicker but i'd much rather go with the Boxster.

Re: boxster vs wrx

I see a lot more WRX's around here than Boxsters. The biggest reason to get a Boxster over the WRX is that the Boxster is a convertible and the WRX isn't. They are really going after two completely different market segments.

Re: boxster vs wrx

The US WRX, apparently, is a disgrace, so Boxster every day of the week. Now, if you're like us and get proper WRX's, then the choice becomes a little harder to make. But seriously how the hell can you call the two anything but completely different???

One is a hideous styling-cock-up, the other is an elegant roadster

One is an AWD Sportting saloon, the other an MR sports car

One is a 2 seat convertible, one is a 4 door, 5 seat sedan

One is turbocharged, one is N/A

I see gobs of wrx's considering that I live 10min from an SIA automotive plant. One good thing about that is that their price is lower than you would normally see. Their just another car on the road pretty much, thats why I would take the Boxster.

Re: boxster vs wrx

Boxsters are freaking retarded. There rich, dumb person certified. While a WRX may not be as sporty looking it still has a certain style that is all its' own (but the Evo shares). A rally car VS. a truly wannabe porche? With the right mods and some expert tweaking you can kick up the STI to actually be a great car, especially when considering the money spent. Just take a look at valve train components drop in a new more suited cam, get some Greedy turbos and re-geared sequential + don’t forget the engine management. You could kill many a car with a good setup. Remember why imports are so fun? Pulling up to that rich guy in his fancy stock European car with his girlfriend and just wasting the hell out of them! It’s one of my favorite hobbies and is great entertainment.

Re: Re: boxster vs wrx

Proves what you know about fricking Boxsters, care to explain to me why they are retarded???

I'm sick of people using the modding argument as well, any car can be modded to an anything-killer, with varying degrees of difficulty. Yeah and I'd love to see the look on your face when you destroy countless transmissions while launching your AWD car

Remember why Imports (Fuck that terminology, Japanese cars are pretty damned good and Porsches are Imports as well) sorry, ricing (The attitude, not the cars) is so fun??? Pulling up to that stock European car/Domestic V8 and dragging them off when they aren't even bothered by you. You watch too much Fast and the Furious.

Yeah, sorry man, but your post smirks of uninformed, opinionated bigotry, Yeah the WRX is nice but, fuck it, it aint invincible, with all the costs that you will incur by the costs that come with a tuned AWD Subaru/Nissan/Mitsubishi, you'd almost be ready for a Gemballa Boxster

but you gotta admit, the wrx is easier to tune, or better car to tune, cause it has turbo, there are more parts for this car, and the parts are cheaper. you dont need to spend huge amounts of money to make it fast.

Obviously

The availability of parts and tuning bits is a plus, both cars will cost a bomb to fix when either engine goes wrong, I've yet to find someone who hasn't used the excuse that Boxer engines are "harder" to fix than Vee or Inline engines and thus think they must charge more. You're also paying more to insure a WRX and the risks of getting it pinched are rather high, so you're going to need a GPS tracker at the very least.

So basically using the purchase and tuning costs argument for the WRX is voided by ignorant mechanics, insurance costs and AWD drivetrains.

Re: boxster vs wrx

I don’t know what the hell makes you think you’re so smart. Insurance for a WRX is not more then a Boxsters. Common a $50,000 costing more to insure then a $30,000 car. I have driven both the WRX and the Boxster so I feel that I can make a reasonable un biases comparison. (My deepest apologies if you feel that I was so mistaken) Of course the WRX in not the best car but neither is the Boxster. If I had a choice id take the 50grand and dump it into a Supra or R34. I have never seen a Boxster that was not 100% bone stock and being driven by some bigheaded suit or old woman. Might just be my area. Hence my opinion, nothing towards Porsche. They make some very powerful light good handling cars. The WRX STI 2.5L comes with 300HP 300lb-ft @ 4000 RPM 0-60 5.06sec. Straight from the dealership. The Boxster S 3.2L 258HP and 229lb-ft @ 4500 RPM 0-60 5.7sec. CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT JUSTIFYS THE EXTRA $20,000?
The only thing that I could think of was it does have somewhat better handling and it says Porsche on the back. The WRX STI is much rarer in my region so is some what distinctive and unique. There respectively well rounded cars and in my opinion better then a Boxter.

Re: boxster vs wrx

Bro............I can justify the big price gap between the cars. Before we start, my obvious choice is a Boxster

The build quality of the Boxster S is superior to the STi- from the hinges to the panel gaps, the Boxster is refined, much more so than the WRX, the Boxster has a lot of luxury equipment, the huge money that Porsche puts into R & D has to be dissolved across all model range- so the badge sort of has something to do with the costs. Rule number 1 of the industry is there is more to how much a car costs, than how fast it goes.

Then there's the fact that no-one'd pay US$50,000 for a Subaru, no matter how good it is, the lesson learnt with the SVX.

You must get amazing deals on insurance over there, because here (New Zealand) No-one will insure a WRX, if you don't have a hellishly large wad of cash, or are over 25 with NO previous convictions, they are quite possibly the worlds most stolen car (On a thefts-per-car basis) I had the pleasure of breaking into one when my cousin locked his keys in his 1996 WRX, couldn't have had an easier time getting into it. The latest ones have DataDots sprayed on them and as a result don't get pinched any more, but insurance'll still kill you.

Don't get me started on the fact every pussy has an Evo, STi, Skyline or Supra over here, the Boxster is remarkably different, with sales at about 40 p/a. It's even rarer than 911's.

But Jim's right, the cars are chalk and cheese, the only similarities are engine layouts

Re: boxster vs wrx

i agree with jimster on that if u mod this and mod that then it will be faster. what, can't the car be fast without any help. c'mon now.

i would much rather take a boxster than the wrx cuz for 1) it looks much better 2)its a porsche (tell somebody you have a porsche and then tell them you have a subaru and compare the reactions).

Re: boxster vs wrx

Did I say anything about mods? I dont THINK i said anything about mods. Stock from the factory, the WRX is more than worthy to match up to a boxster. Although the styling is a personal style thing. They are different vehicles, "chalk and cheese". but still 20 grand US. for a badge, and curvier. i would still buy a wrx, and a killer sound system and a sony trinitron and junk food for a month than a boxster. makes sense. I guess its just one guys opinion

Re: boxster vs wrx

If you want a stylish car with out any mods then you want a Boxster. But the standard Boxster looks like a shoe that has a stance similar to a monkeys nuts. If you can afford a Porsche then make it a Ruf 3600 S, now that is a stylish car. Unlike the Gemballa Boxster s the 3600 is not quite out in the super car category so if you got cash step up and get one. But as for all of us normal people (as are most or all of the people in this forum) the WRX is still the best value, that allows some room for personalizing so you can recognize your investment among the crowds of clones. Sounds like New Zealand is a great place to live. Here in Northwestern US I see about 20 Boxsters a day, that is no exaggeration and all seem to blur together. When I see another Skyline or a Supra or even a WRX I take notice right away. The same thing for the new 350z. There are still very few on the roads around here making these rarely scene cars big attention getters. Most of the car enthuses around here drive saline’s or the occasional viper; with bs Hondas taped together and eclipses that sound like popcorn makers for the norm. I’ve gone up against a viper and saline going up one of our mountain passes close to my home and it makes me sad to know how shi--y the driver behind a 80grand car is. Well sorry to get off topic but its good to know that in other parts of the world people actually respect cars. Can someone answer this- Why are you gonna tear up a transmission just because your car is awd, it’s the same as a normal car minus the transfer case. The guy I have build my gearboxes makes them bulletproofed beefy monsters and stands behind his work 100 percent. They can handle what ever you throw at them stress and HP wise. Even the stocker transmission on a WRX is not made out of swill cheese; your car would have to be poor as hell to kill off the gears every launch. But whatever, stock is gay anyways, learn how to use tools instead dollar bills. Its more fun going fast in something you made and depicts who you are and what your about.
