balanced engine for top/low end
currently debating the b16 and b18 type R engines.. im looking for a good launcher and then topping out.. i will start eitehr engine with full engine build up then slap turbo to it.. on a 92-95 civic Hb, my budget is about 6000 to invest on engine... does anyone have any plans on which engine will work better for a launch and give me top end??? and is it true the type R engine b18c5 comes ported and polished? thank you all... as again this is a newbie

Not meaning to burst your bubble or anything, but your going to be hard pressed with $6k to spend even buying a type-r engine without it having over 40K miles. On most sites b16b's go for 5500+ before shipping, b18c type-r's ususally go for anywhere from 5k to 6k before shipping. The only way I could see you buying one of these with 6k to spend would be to buy one, have it shipped to a company address(you can save like 400 bucks on shipping this way) and then install the engine yourself or by a friend(that hopefully has experience with engines) The 2 engines you selected are 2 of the best engines made by man, but they're also very expensive. They would get the job done for what you wanted to do, but they are usually also built as NA engines. There have been type-r engines that had turbo(not an easy thing to do), but these were usually built by Class A+++ mechanics with company fundings.
And since you didn't ask any advice on any other engines to choose from, I won't reccommend any. Oh and answering your question about the B18c type-r's having a stock port and polish... yes, this is true. |

Re: balanced engine for top/low end
i say go for the b16a and slap a turbo, or a b18b. A b16a can be found for 2000-2500 with an additional 200 shipped. So that's about 3000 for a motor and you might need to replace some stuff. Since your going to do a buildup i'm guessing that will be around a 1.5k which brings you to about 4.5k for the engine alone. Then you gotta calculate in the installation cost unless your planning to do the swap. Then a turbo kit which is around 2-4k, cheaper if you make a custom one. so i'm guessing the whole thing is probably going to cost you around 8k

Re: balanced engine for top/low end
i doubt you can obtain a gsr and all that's needed and turbocharge it for less than 6k, tell me how to turbocharge a b16 for even less
