I would like to know which ecu to use with the setup (below) I am planning to do to my sedan.
ported and polished d15b2 head valve job aftermarket valves and springs d15b7 intake manifold assembly (and wiring harness) polished throttle body (and possible intake manifold) d16a6 cam Jet-Hot coated 4-2-1 header OBX full cat-back exhaust system dx tranny (keeping it) Iceman CAI ignition upgrades 8.5 lb flywheel heavy duty clutch Is the factory fuel pump good enough to handle the MPFI swap? Which engine's timing belt should be used? Will an aftermarket oil pan for any of the d16's fit the d15b2? - (i figure that it willsince they have the same block, but just checking) Last edited by 91DXsedanJoe; 01-15-2004 at 02:19 PM. |

The factory fuel pump will be fine for the mpfi swap. I have a b16a and I still have the stock pump and it is working fine.
As for the timing belt I am not too sure on that. And yes the d16 oilpan will work.

IMO, those "upgrades" dont really warrant such major things as another fuel pump, or an aftermarket oil pan, or even aftermarket valve springs.
use any 1.5 timing belt except for d15z1 (VX) |

Right, right -I do not think it matters if I want an extra capacity oil tank or better valves and stiffer valve springs.....those just add to the whole package.
They can only make the engine more reliable (and more so running at higher rpms). what about the ecu ? |

well you could always get a pg7 off of ebay....got mine for $47 shipped. or get a 90-91 pm6 and have it chipped. as far as extra oil capacity.....get an oil cooler, that will give you roughly 1/2 quart more. as far as the valve springs, if your not gonna go with a aftermarket higher lift cam or arent gonna really run in such a higher rpm IMO the valves springs will be a lil much for your purpose. 8.5lb flywheel, is this engine gonna be a daily driver or stricktly track? flywheel that light may give you drivability problems like improper idle if you can even get it to idle where it should.

The car is a daily driver that has only 74,500 original miles. What would cause the idling problems if the car is tuned properly?? And what about the lighter flywheel would make it not idle???
For my 2 cents worth, I feel that the flywheel will have no effect on the idle (only that there will be a bit less vibrational dampening), and that the profile of the cam is the only factor. What year and engine model did the pg7 come out of ?? |

flywheel holds inertia. lighter the flywheel the less inertia it can hold. i say 8.5lbs would be too light from my experience with a 10lb flywheel as well as a 12.5lb flywheel. my engine had trouble idleing at 750 rpms. i could only get it to idle smoothly at about 1300. im not saying it wont idle just saying you may have trouble with tryin to keep the idle at or around 750rpms. should be able to find a pg 7 out of a 88-89 teg. also just to throw this out in the open, if you would like to go with an aftermarket cam profile. delta cams offers what they call the 272 cam regrind. cost you roughly $100, just need to send in your stock si cam and turn around time is pretty fast. i got my cam back in about 8 days. i have no complaints with there regrind and i have yet to hear any.

That is cool. Thank you for that info; definitely should go with about a 12.5 pounder then. What about the ecu from an 88-91 si car? would that be a good choice - or even one of the Hondata units for the 1.6's. I have heard that they work good with built engines.

without a big cam, you pretty much have a stock engine... ported head and bolt ons. a stock PM6 should work fine for you.

the pm6 found in the 90-91 crx/civic si is the only chippable ecu from the 4g. its a good ecu to begin with, the pg7 will give you results like a chipped pm6. i dunno anything about hondata. always used a pg7 or a chipped pm6

unless you're converting to OBD1, then the d15b7 harness will be worthless. the main plug is different, the injector plug & injectors are different, the oxygen sensor plug is different, and both distributor plugs are different.
You'll need the plugs for a normal multiport conversion from an OBD0 car, i.e. 4 injector plugs, injector resistor box, and the two distributor plugs. |

so does that mean i should go for the harness from an 4g ex/Si car???
I dont want to have to do any wiring (if I can get by without it). It seems plausible that I could get the harness from a d16a6 and use all other associated parts for the swap too. that is a better idea (I think) - and then use the a6 ecu also (or the other suggested ones) Duh - my car isnt OBD1 !!!! -forgot about that one. anywho...that exospeed stuff looks good. oh- I mentioned the wrong cam in my previous post - it is the #12 Crane cam (stage 2) -not- stage 3. |
