2000 grand am se

I'm kinda new to cars in general. I bought my car from the used car lot at a local ford dealership and I had been looking around for a grand am for awhile when i found this one. anyway, short of having my entire engine replaced after my cam headers blew, its been a great car. i am wondering what kind of upgrades are available for it though (since it seems i'm stuck with it for god knows how long ). i've gotten a lot of websites from this forum and a lot of information on how things work that i didn't understand before. i have the 2.4 DOHC inline 4. it has enough HP to get me around and take out a car or two when i floor it. but its not enough. i know i want to start with a CAI but i was wondering if it's possible to add a turbo or supercharger to a stock engine. a friend of mine said if i did, i'd throw a rod or 2 and that's not something i look forward to. can a turbo or charger be added to a stock without killing another engine?

dont worry about using technical terms with me, i'll figure them out if i don't know them
