For comparison, the Del Sol weighs a little less than an Integra. Maybe by a hundred pounds or two. Something like that.

I believe the Civic hatches are the lightest, but only some years. I think they got heavier after '95 but were pretty darn light before then. The CRX is second lightest I believe. I see a few turbo B18C1 EG ('92 - '95) hatches at the drag strip here from time to time. They usually run low 12's or 11's.

Re: weight

Civic Hatch < CRX < del Sol.

The sol's a fatass... mainly because of the way the frame is built. Under the rear A pillar is a roll bar.. steel all the way around. While this sucks for weight, it doesn't suck when you roll over with the top off. Someone in a miata.. dead. Someone in a mustang convertible.. dead. Someone in a sol.. Walks away. I've seen way more people walk away from sol rollovers than other vehicles. Of course it's hard to roll a sol, but if you manage it, you're in good hands.. just hang on and get ready for the ride of your life. Jonathan's right about the hatch gettin heavy in 95. The 92-95 civic hatch is one of the lightest hondas ever made period. But it also gets destroyed in wrecks due to the light frame. It doesn't take a lot to get a sol a lot lighter, though, which is an advantage to them. Swapping a cf hood for the stock one alone shaves about 35lbs. (OE hood = double layer steel.. roughly 60 lbs.. trust me.. I had to lift mine off the top of my car ) then you add some light rims (look for 1lb per inch or less) and that'll save ya some. If you're going all out, pull the interior and put in a racing bucket (fg or cf) and that'll shave almost 150lbs in plastic crap and seats. The list goes on about what all you can do, but let's put it this way. My friend Tim has a full drag sol that I talk about all the time (I want his car.. sooo bad). He's got a carbon fiber racing shell seat and a harness and a wheel as far as interior goes. (well and a shift knob..). Exterior... cf hood, trunk, and targa top. Add that to all the weight reduction he gets as far as internals... and I think the last time he weighed his sol it weighed in at around 1175 or so. For comparison, a stock VTEC model weighs 2491. *bowdown to Tim*

Yeah, the Sol's heavy, but there's a misconception that a Sol is really frickin' heavy. It's really not any heavier than most of the Hondas around, and is still lighter than most. I would put the Sol in as a Honda "middleweight". The 4th and 5th generation Civic hatches are probably the lightest Honda made - that and the 4th gen Civic coupes and sedans.

As to your buddy, that's impressive weight reduction on the Sol. Do you have a pic of his car? Just curious as to what it looks like.

Re: weight

It would be a hard choice between the civic hb and the sol they are both very light and easy to soup up. Good luck!

Are US models really that much different to JDM ones?

Over here the weight from heaviest to lightest is

EF CRX < EF civic hatch < EG civic hatch < Eg civic sedan = del sol(Manual roof) < DC integra

DA integras and del sols with the trans top are also similar to a DC integra depending on exact spec
