soundsys suggestions for 98-02 accord

any suggestions for a 98-02 accord sedan v6?
what kind/brand of headunit ie alpine
what kind/brand of subs/amps/etc.

something that is not TOO expensive but nonetheless i want a very good one that the bass can knock off car alarms from far. =D.

Re: soundsys suggestions for 98-02 accord

well depends what you want from it, my suggestion has always been this, buy an alpine unit, a nice one, with the stock speakers, if you want more, buy an amp and a sub. Normally i recommend the alpine 5 channel and 1 12" sub, when done right this combo is the most efficient and best sounding from a SQ stand point. I prefer alpine for their sound quality and liability, yes there is better stuff out there, but alpine can take a beating. you are looking for a low THD rating and a moderate output. It's not the amount of power that you have, it's how clean it is. Any subwoofer as long as some guy didn't slap it together in his basement can be made to sound decent given the right enclosure. although i am partial to stillwater designs (kicker) and RF. after all this it would be a shame to stop, buy yourself a nice pair of 6.5" components for the front and a moderately nice pair of 6X9's for the rear and you are set. I personally prefer MB Quart. Everyone has their own opinions of who to buy, and most brands can be made to sound better then others, but it's all in how your stereo components compliment each other and how they are tuned. You can see what i have below and most are more then happy to buy similar components after hearing it.

Good luck.

Usually your stock speakers in the newer accords are farely nice, id prob leave your rear speakers stock.....Do you have a budget on your stereo? what id recomend is also an alpine H/U (most alpine h/u's have the v drive 60x4 internal amplifiers in them) this way you wont need to amp your coaxils they will run great of the decks power id probably recomend the alpine 9815 which is probably one of the best decks you can buy for the money incredible power....if you dont need MP3 capabilities try finding an alpine CDA-7893 which can usually be found for around 200$ used on the net

id probably do a full alpine setup if i were you, look into the alpine type R series speakers, their awesome, use the type R components up front and run a 12'' alpine type R for your sub (these subs are incredible especially for the price)

honestly for an amp im sure most peolpe havnt heard much about these but the JBL bp power series are incredible amps, and they are incredibly priced.......you can pick up the BP 600.1 for about 200$ shipped, awesome clean power, and they are also underrated, if you dont want to spend that much id run the 300.1 which would do just fine for the sub...

this whole setup will run ya about 500-650$ depending on the deck and the amp you decide to use........good luck!!

Re: soundsys suggestions for 98-02 accord

only 1 thing about mating the JBL amp and Type R sub. The sub is great, great SQ and SPL, if you have a good amp driving it. The JBL is the best bang for the buck amp, but won't do the Type R justice. It has no subsonic filter and a really shitty crossover, so your bass will more than likely sound really muddy. That's the only gripe I have with those amps.

exactly the only problem i have with the amp........but thats why i said if hes on a budget itd be a great amp.........the muddy bass doesnt have much truth to it tho, yeah your going to get more crisp bass with an amp with a subsonic filter but I ran a 12" type R off a JBL 600.1 in 1.0cuft for a few months and it sounded awesome.........

Re: soundsys suggestions for 98-02 accord

As you can guess by my nickname.... I love Eclipse systems. They have excellent sound quality, even with OEM speakers (if you're on a tight budget). I've tried Alpine, Clarion, Panasonic, Pioneer, JVC, Sony, etc.... and I've never heard as good as an Eclipse. Basically you'll never touch your bass & treble controls ever again! There aren't 50 000 ways to adjust your sound, it just sounds right!
For speakers, heck they all sound so different. Take what sounds best to your ears! Invest more on speakers if ever you wish to amplify them one day.

Clarion deck
JBL amp
Front & rear Infinity speakers
Infinity sub
Total: $592.40 + shipping
Strange enough it would cost you 50 cents less to take the 12", but there'd be WAY too much bass with the 12".

This can be a nice kit as well, but once again I recommend you shop around for the speakers, listen before you buy, it's gonna be a long time in your car!

P.S. unusualcivic, thanks for the links, I didn't know this website existed! It's very interesting!

Re: soundsys suggestions for 98-02 accord

You want to set off car alarms... That type R won't do that... Do you want it loud and clean for bass or just loud? I'd go with iehter eclipse or alpine deck. Don't touch an infinity sub.(too much cost for what it does) Way too much bass in a 12, my butt. You can make it sound right and as loud as you want with "way too much bass" and proper setup. I would not go infinity speakers, there are better for cost. I would go with CDT speakers from www.thezeb.com . Use 2 as your front stage and by some rear fill speakers if you feel the need. Get a 2 channel amplifier to power the speakers with the RMS to RMS. All this can be found on www.thezeb.com Now on the Subwoofer and amplifier, how much do you want to spend after you see the other costs and how much percent wise do you want SQ vs. SPL. SQ being sound quality, SPL being loudness. I am about 60%/40%, so I tend to float towards www.edesignaudio.com Now if you want to set off car alarms, all you need is a good 15" ported and tuned right. Now if you have the extra cash, say 500 I would go pick up the Brahma 15" and power it with an Avionixx amplifier or a profile amplifier, Profile being cost less amp and Avionixx being low cost SQ power amp. If you are limited to about 300 I would get a e15a.22. And any less than that I would like to know what you are going for SQ or SPL.

Re: soundsys suggestions for 98-02 accord

Now for a cost run up
CL-61a Components 149.99 for 2
CL-6X rear fill 44.99 for 2 (optional) I usually ignore rear speakers
CA400 89.99. Remeber all prices listed are prices of shipped cost
This will total about 260 or 220 depending.
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=N
about 210 with shipping.
subwoofer 315 or 459
amplifier anywhere from 200-350

At most about 1200 dollars
At least about 945 dollars
Anything less I need to know SQ or SPL preferences.
