Heating problem SL1

Hi . I posted this in the SL1 thread but no one has answer me.

Now my problem is when I am stopped at the lights and I have the heater on full it is only blowing out cool air.......has I start to move the car the air gets a little more warmer........if I am on the highway the heater is not to bad but it still will not make the car hot.

Some people I have talked to are saying that it is the thermstat and the guy at the dealer is saying it maybe the heater core.

I was just looking at a thread from Sunfire and they are saying that it is the head Gasket..............I had the head gasket done 6 months ago from Saturn ...........I hope it is not this again....if it is good bye Saturn

Just would like to know if anyone here had the same problem with there Saturn car or any other car.

Thank to anyone that can help me...my Saturn is a 1997 and only has 87,000 km very nice car but I am starting to get f@!#ing pissed at this car.............I have put all the km's on this car and it was NOT driven hard .

Check the coolant level when the vehicle is cold. It should be at the full mark on the resorvoir. If it is full the next thing I'd suggest is to replace the thermostat and gasket, bleed the system and check the heater. The resorvoir bottle cap should be holding pressure; you should feel pressure when opening it.
All the best.

Re: Heating problem SL1

Does the engine temp gauge show normal? The problem is usually what pcv told you. Low coolant level should show up on the instrument panel but little or no heat usually means low coolant.

It's either low coolant level (due to a leak or the motor burning it up-head gasket, etc) or you have a clogged heater core. Dexcool has been know to screw up cooling systems by forming a thick brown sediment. When you pull off the rad cap, is ther a large chunk of brown build up? If there is, your heater core may be blocked. At full operating temp and the heat on, feel both hoses going to heater core at the firewall. They should be both approx the same temp. If there is a big difference in temp, the heater core is blocked. Good luck.
