Honestly, you would be better off selling the RS and getting a GST or GSX. Or you could buy a bolt on turbo kit for you car if all you really want is boost. The RS and GS have the 420a engine which is completely different than the 4g63 found in the GST/GSX. The 420 is also mounted 180 degrees from the 4g63. You'd be spending so much money on STOCK motor/tranny/wiring harness/ecu/ intercooler + piping, motor mounts, relocated battery, not to mention labor on top of that. It's not as easy as a Honda B series swap. I personally know of ONE guy who converted his GS to a 4g63. He didn't think is was gonna be that much $$ but in the end....it cost him $13,000 (no joke). but since he already started the project he had to finish it. About 8 months later, the car had an engine fire and burned to the ground after Hot Import Nights.
Bottom Line:
Sell your RS, buy gst, gsx or Talon Tsi. At least with the 97+ GST/GSX you get extra things like power windows, better OEM ground effects, maybe leather, besides the 4g63 motor, which weren't available on RS'.

Re: engine swap help please

Nothing really fits in the RS GS models. you are kinda screwed DSM's are not like hondas. You cant just swap in what ever you want.

They do make turbo kits for the 420A motor at www.hahnracecraft.com they have alot of things for that motor. Turbo the motor you have it will be cheaper than doing any kind of swap!

Yea like welding motor mounts. Thats real smart the 4G63 is reverse of the 420A motor.

Re: engine swap help please

Why do you feel that you need to replace the motor? Is there something wrong with it? How many miles? My previous Talon had 177,000 miles on it before I sold. It's still driving around somewhere.
You said you don't have much money to get another car. Selling yours and getting gs-t/x is going to be way cheaper than swapping a 4g63 in. If you dont' want to get a turbo kit for your current motor, selling is the next best option. I bet you've looked around the internet to see what motors people have swapped in to their RS/ GS eclipses. You probably almost zero people who've done it. You'll find that they either:
A) Went with a turbo 420a
B) Went with nitrous
C) Bought a GST or GSX

If you're still die hard on swapping in a different motor like the Honda guys do. You could maybe fit a Neon R/T motor in there, or maybe any of the 4 -cylinder Avengers, Sebrings, or better yet the Neon SRT-4 motor. The SRT-4 motor would be nice. No ones done it, But I bet it could be stuffed in there somehow along with the EVO 4-8 motors....... IF you had the money I'm sure someone could do it for you.
You're in college so chances are you're gonna be broke so that leaves you with the turbo kit, or selling your car to get a GST or GSX or Tsi. I see 95 GST's going for $4,000. I'm sure you could easily get 5-7 g's for you car. You wouldn't have to add much money to get a 4G63 powered DSM. And don't worry about your already painted interior, you can do it again on the next car. It's still gonna take less time than swapping in a motor.

Re: engine swap help please

THE EVO MOTORS WILL NOT GO INTO THE GS/RS CARS! (they are still 4G63's) THEY WILL NOT WORK.

I never said they WILL work. With money, anything is possible. Extreme Motorsports put a "old" 4g63 in a 97+ MIrage which normally has the motor mounted 180 degrees from the. The RS/GS eclipses have their motors oriented the same way as EVO 4-8 which is... timing belt on the passenger side. He would need some custom engine mounts and tons more shit but it "could" happen but highly unlikely.
Not that the EVO 4-8 4g63 would work anyways. He'd have to find a FWD tranny that works with that motor too. I don't know of any FWD tranny that would mount up the "new" 4g63.
I was just stating hypothical situations anyway. He's a college student, therefore broke, so it's not gonna happen anyway.

Re: engine swap help please

Could always pick up a used 420a with lower mileage and be done with it. Since it should theoretically be more reliable (since you think yours is in rough shape) you could always turbo the new motor later like poeple have done on this site. GST/X is the best upgrade, but if you really need to keep your car a 420 with mild boost is still a fun car. But there is nothing that will drop in that has more power right out of the box.
