well ever since i got new belts and washed under my car cause i got some mud on it i have this really really really loud sweaking noise... it happens when i first turn on my car only sometimes and last for like a min or so... i think it might be my new belts but im not sure... any ideas?

hmm...not sure...do you know exactly where its coming from? it may be the tension in your belts you might wanna check that.

You guys are probably correct . . .
It is your belts, and it is the tension . . . your new belts once properly tightened . . . will stretch a bit within the first day or two . . . they need to be re-tightened . . . Then again, our cars only have ONE belt, no? It's going around the alternator, crank pulley, and AC compressor . . . Tighten it down a bit . . . the FSM recommends you leave approx 1/4" of free play in the belt no more. That means that (WITH THE ENGINE OFF!!) if you press down on the belt halfway between the alternator and the crank pulley, it will barely budge. If I've said anything incorrectly, someone please correect me . . . Stevie B '93 G20 :sun:

There is a spray can called "Belt Grip" which stops all the noise etc.
Spray a light coat on the belts is all that is needed.

I would tighten then use the belt lube... The stuff does really work well.

My dad once took his car to a dealer to check out the same problem. the tech guy looked under the hood, went back in, and came out with some transmission fluid. he the put some on the belts, and turned the car on. the noice was gone..magic...hehehe

|
Trouble with using a oil etc is that the noise might go away but it stuffs your belts by making them soft and weak.
