bigger brakes on 99 teg ls

i need new rotors on a 99 turbo ls teg and i figure i could use bigger brakes. do i only need to get new calipers, rotors and pads and put them on? do i need to make any mods to do this, or will it just bolt right on? if i can get the parts from a different car, what car do i look for?

by the way, they are disc brakes all the way around.

Re: bigger brakes on 99 teg ls

Why do you figure you could use bigger brakes? Are you using all stock components right now? If you are and you want more braking power, do this...

Go get a couple of Autozone (or any other parts store) brand $30 rotors. Pick up some HawkHP, Axxis Ultimate, EBC Greenstuff, etc. brake pads. Bleed all four corners. Optional DOT4 brake fluid (I think Valvoline makes a good upgraded fluid) swap if you wish. And if you're really need to put new fancy parts on your car then get some stainless steel brake lines.

I assure you that you will have much improved braking with a mere bleed and upgraded pad. BTW, you really only need upgraded pads on the front. After that, if you're not satisfied come back and we'll talk about a $700ish and $1500 option for brake upgrades that are really only needed for the track.

Re: bigger brakes on 99 teg ls

the car is running 10 lbs. of boost. i definitely need to change the rotors and pads anyways, so i figured i might as well upgrade the brakes. so, what can i do without looking at the $700-1500? would just getting some cross-drilled rotors and metal masters along with some dot 5 fluid be enough?

Re: bigger brakes on 99 teg ls

Just go with blanks. The only reason for fancy rotors is to reduce heat and resist against fade. You don't have to worry about it unless you're doing hot laps at a road course. And even then, fluid and pads are fine to resist fade.

I stick by my suggestions in my first post.
