These are the rules... well actually only the 'Strines and Kiwis will understand them

http://www.mosey.id.au/Backyard_Cricket.html

Only thing is they forgot the rule about batting again before everyone has had a go...

Phew! I'm sure glad that backyard cricket is nothing like "backyard football"

3e. Courtesy Call: Always invite the chicks to have a bat. They usually say no, but on the odd occasion, they do take a grip of the willow. You can bowl a couple of dollies to her so she can hit before ending this freakish sideshow with a yorker. Most chicks hold a bat as if they're chopping wood, and they bowl as if throwing left-handed. And they can't handle yorkers. Still, someone has to make the salad.

1a. Can't Get Out First Ball: Curious rule introduced to give the token unco dickhead a reprieve. Smart-arse batsmen use it to hone their reverse sweep; which becomes interesting when smart-arse bowlers use it to hone their beamer.
Ba hahahahahahaha.

Re: These are the rules... well actually only the 'Strines and Kiwis will understand them

Sorry forgot about the Suid Afrikaaners...

We used to put insulation tape around the ball for a seam - doesn't swing but you do get more effect from the seaming or spinning delivery.

I once played a game of "social" cricket against one of my clients - when we turned up I recognised that several of their players were ringers (quite a few were club cricketers and one had played first class cricket and definitely did not work for my client). So I confess I did a very evil and unconscionable thing that I have hesitation bringing up even now....

We batted first and set a target. And between innings I doctored the ball with a bottlecap off a longneck and some dubbin. When the ringins came to bat the ball was swinging all over the place including our spinner when he bowled his topspinner... It was downright bad sportsmanship and something that simply wasn't cricket. But I contrived a tie out of the game when I got one of our guys to bowl two overs of dollies to even the scores...

They also seem to be unaware, that the batting order is simply organised by who bowled the previous batter out, or who caught them

Or the mandatory HOWZAT! after every damned ball and any verbal contact must be made in a 'Strine accint, mayte"
