I am looking to install a remote starting untit on my '98 I30 and was wondering if anyone here has done the same and ran into any problems? Any advise or comments are appreciated.

Yes and I suggest letting a pro do it.

Its a bitch of a job to do man. Your going to go through a lot adding that feature to your I. I agree with ponch, let a pro handle it. (Even with a pro doing it, your still going to need to let an authorized Infiniti dealer reprogram the codes for your key and security system.)

Heres a link you can check. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=276893

i installed a viper alarm with remote start and had no problems with it. I ve had it for more than a year. I carry the original infinti remote and also the viper. When u unlock by mistake the dorr with the factory keyfob the alarm goes off and then u have to unlock it with the vipe remote. U get used to it but i let a pro install it cause it can get messy

Why would you still carry the OEM remote around? Doesn't the Viper remote do everything you need?

U dont have to carry the factory alarm with you, but its nice when you turn the car on from a distance and the music blasting, then with the factory remote i like to lower the front windows. With the viper remote u cant lower them unless you pay like 100 for each window but the guy who installed it said it dangerous, so I have to carry both my remotes.

WHat? Why is it dangerous? DEI would not sell anything if they thought they were dangerous. That's why they like to have the RS installed only on cars with automatic trannys. If you are able to roll the windows down with the remote, then you can do it with the Viper. It shouldn't cost $100. I did it on a VW and charged $25 extra.

Its dangerous cause when you lock the car and you have the windows down then the windows go automatically up. If you have a kid or a dog in the car there might catch their hands or their head. Use common sense man and if you get them installed proffesionally they cost more. Believe me i went to three different places to ask.

Are these guys or shops you visited MECP certified or do they know what they are selling? I have been doing this for many years and have never had a misfunction on my personal or customer's vehicles. The 530T from DEI uses a set of resistors that read the resistance on the motor. When it "sees" heavy load like the window hitting the end of it's travel, it shuts it off. The same is true if you have an obstruction in the way. Once it hits it, it stops. This is of course if the person installing it had properly adjusted the sensativity. There is no way to use anything else like plan relays and such because these will never know if the window has went all the way up or down.

These are proffesional shops not individual people. The guys has been there for 15 years and he told me 1) there is no point to install them, 2) they are expensive, 3) they are risky, so he advised me not to get them. He was honest cause was going to get more money if i got them but he said they're not worth it. Ill give you the phone number and you can talk to them if you're not convinced

Re: Remote start

NO thanks. I know of some shops around here that only like to do stereos even though they say they do alarms. Then there is another shop that does alarms but doesn't like to do remote starts and stuff. I guess it's all in how versed you are in vehicle electronics. I'll 2nd the statement that there is no rhyme or reason to install them. Really, is there much of a reason to do anything to a car other than required maintenance and to drive them??? Anyway, it sure is fun customizing them. I had the window automation on my ZR2 S-10 and loved it but I never installed another one on any of my newer vehicles. Why? Really that I do not need it nor do I have the time to install it. I'd rather sell and install it for someone else.
