Question Wires/wiring question for audio

Finally almost have my amp all hooked up and running. Spent the past couple days (for a couple hours at a time each day) routing all the wiring I need behind the interior panels to keep everything conceled and unseen for astetic purposes. As for the front channels of my system, where's the best place to tap the output wires from the amp that connect to my front speakers? Running the wire through the doors seems like it would be a bit of work. If I tapped into the factory speaker wiring somewhere under the dash, would the factory wiring handle the increased and smoother output of the amp, or would i really be better off tapping the wire that's coming off the amp, to the speakers directly by running it through the doors?

Also out of curiosity since the JDMfan website doesn't work anymore for me to check, what color are the factory speaker wires for each of the two front channels? Thanks.

Re: Wires/wiring question for audio

running the wires through the door really isn't that bad. I would suggest this method, it takes about 2 hours per side if you decide to drill the molex and use the factory door wire loom. There are some empty plug locations that you can drill out of the plug and feed the wire through. If you want the cheap route just run wires to the factory behind the radio and connect there. If you are going to use any of the factory wiring it doesn't really matter where you do it.

just try connecting one end of the new wire to the end of the factory wire in the door. then just pull the factory wire through the door, it will take the good wire with it.

Re: Wires/wiring question for audio

well actually it won't, there is a plug in the door that would stop that from happening. the molex plug is what makes this a problem (assuming you are talking about the 00 civic in your sig) you would have to pull the boot off the car and door side, and you will see the molex plug on the door side. you can easily drill through the molex at the door, then cut your factory wire, connect the aftermarket, and pull into the car, but i find it easier just to do without it.

That's what I was thinking too...

But wich way would be better as far as sound and signal transfer quality?

Re: Wires/wiring question for audio

It's definately better to just run a wire all the way through the door. are you running coax or separates in the door? i always mount the crossover in the car and run two wires into the door for woofer/tweeter. This way you don't create any bottle necks in the system. I have experienced before where the system will push the limits of wire capacity, usually stock 18 guage, and will cut out or overload protection.

Where are you in CA? If you were up for a drive I could do it for you. Let me know, or i could try to explain a little more what to do. Good luck.

Since having an Alpine H/U, naturally it uses an inline harness to allow connection of the factory audio harness to the H/U itself. Anyways, I pulled out that inbetween conversion harness, and cut the appropriate wires, and then wired the front output wires to the speakers, into the wires that I cut on the harness.
