ok, soon i'll have my super afc 2 then i'm going flywheel.
but after these mods i wanna do the turbo upgrade.
from what i was told i can get 22 psi from a $1800 turbo upgrade, not sure what turbo it is but thats what the store told me. is 22psi too much for the stock engine? thats my main concern. with these mods i'll be working with around 490hp if i calculate correct. going from 15 to 22psi is ABOUT 70hp gain correct? help me out here. and anyone else with input please give.

I think you already know this but just making sure, you need bigger injectors to run 22psi. I would go with 660's for that psi.

The turbo that fits that psi and price is the 15g, make sure you get the TD04HL compresor housing on that turbo, it costs a little more but its bigger and worth it.

When you figure that HP gain you are assuming the same hp gain per psi. When you get a bigger turbo it will be more efficient, and therefore make more power per psi. In short, 15psi on the stock turbos is far from 15psi on upgraded turbos. With 22psi you should be in the high 400 AWHP range, but you have to watch knock. If you dont have a logger, now is the time to get one.

To run that much presure you will need a way to cool the air or up the octane of the fuel to prevent knock. Water or alky injection cools the air and allows you to run 2-3 psi more. What im going with is propane, it raises the octain of the fuel and allows you boost 7+ psi more than without it.

From what I've read, the pistons can safely handle 22psi and the rods a few more then that.

Along with the larger turbos 15g or DR-650, bigger injectors (720cc) and an upgraded fuel pump, you will want to watch how rich your fuel is getting into the engine. It seems everyone starts out with some knock at higher boost doing what you've described. Regapping the plugs (down to .28) sometimes is enough but the fuel mix gets hazy to me with larger turbos and an upgraded fuel system.

so is this a good idea or not, i mean how much more are we talking about spending besides the 15g turbo's, lets say they are $1800.

not bad, super afc 2 is what i'm getting pretty soon here anyway, so thats gonna be out the way.
i guess my only other ? is, will the reliability of the car decrease then because of the turbo upgrade? and if so how badly.
if its gonna decrease the life of the car too much then, i don't think thats something i want to do.

anything that adds power increases wear, but in practical purposes, it wont decrease the life of the car. Its your driving style and how you treat the car that determines the life more than anything else.

For 22psi or anything in that range you'd need 720cc injectors. With an s-afc as a controller you only have a 50% adjustment. At max adjustment you can just squeak 720's. This is not a good idea you sould have some room left to tweak.

Id look at the ls1/maft/safc combo or an Arc II of you want to go that route.

It still only offers a +/- 50% correction. Id has more points of correction(12 vs 8) and other monitoring abilitys that make is a worthwile purchase.
