Handling question: 16in vs 17in

Hey all,

Do the height of the rims affect how your car handles, or is it mostly based on tire width?

I'm looking at 16x7 and 17x7 5Zigen FNO1R wheels...

The choices are:

16x7: 195/50/16(piss on those),225/50/16, or 205/45/16
17x7: 205/40/17, 215/45/17, 235/45/17

I'm looking for the best handling I can get, straight line means nothing to me. What would be my best choice?

Also, can I fit the 235s on my car? Would it be pointless? 225s? I dont know the max width tires that can fit on an s13

Thanks,

-Grendel

From someone who sells tires:
The max you will fit safely on a 17x7 is 215. I would'nt get anything smaller than a 7.5 for the rear.

If price were no matter, I would go 17x7.5 front, 17x8 rear. Otherwise 16x7 front 16x8 rear.

Why do i want wider back tires, my car understeers enough as is... wouldnt that increase it?

would 16x8 fit all the way around?

With a staggard setup, you get more traction in the rear, and the front wheels turn quicker because there is less rubber to move.

If your car understeers then you're either going to fast into the turn or you're not transferring weight correctly.

^Depends on the height of the tire. If its 245/55 then you could probably fit it on a 7.5, but if its 245/40 then you need a 8. For 265/40 I THINK you need a 8.5 or wider. Dont quote me on that because the only 265 tires I sell are tall truck tires.
