1996 cherokee headlight switch

My switch broke the other day...so I got a new one. The old switch had a large black plug and a small black plug that looked like a blade style ground to the switch chassis. the new switch doesn't have the same connector for the small black plug...instead it has two blade type connectors. one looks like a ground, the other a contact...positioned near the knob release.

anyway, my parking and dash lights won't come on now. Anyone experienced with this new switch? if so, maybe you can tell me what the connectors are for and how to hook them up...I have tried many variations without any luck. all fuses are good too.
