What's the most miles someone you know ever put on a car?

My 22 yr old sis put 108,000 miles on her 1998 VW Jetta Wolfsburg Edition, and the car still runs great. Minor problems and stuff. But that's the most miles I've ever seen put on a car, of some one I know. My 18 yr old sis, got the Jetta as a hand-me-down, lol. We STILL have the Jetta, and she only put 2000 extra miles on it. Total miles on jetta, 110,000, give or take.

Re: What's the most miles someone you know ever put on a car?

My mom put 315,000 mi. on her '86 Chevy Nova before something went seriously wrong with it. It's alternator went out when it was only 5 months old, but it was under warranty and never gave us trouble again. I don't know what went wrong with it, but I know the person we gave it to fixed it and kept driving it for awhile.

my 1981 Toyota Tercel has 247000 miles, still runs like a champ besides the oil leak from the front main seal. My goal is 300000 miles.

Re: What's the most miles someone you know ever put on a car?

My brother has a '90 volks jetta diesel that he got 530,000 kilometers on the orig. engine. I don't know waht that'd be in miles, but I'm impressed.
I had a 1983 caprice that went around the clock, but that was on it's 3rd engine.

My current car is a 93 T-bird with 278,000 on the odometer which died within the last year. I probably have about 300k.

Re: What's the most miles someone you know ever put on a car?

Trust me, I'm not making this up. I know a guy who two years ago finished a 1-year school with Merc-Benz. He now works as a Merc-Benz mechanic and has been able to test some fo the cars like the S600. What he told me was that one guy had stuck to the maintenance schedule like glue and most of hte time did things before they needed to be done. By the time the company asked for the car in return to study it, it had a little over 900,000 miles. No Joke.

Re: What's the most miles someone you know ever put on a car?

this may not be the best thread to post this in, but...

Since we're talking of old cars, if you have a car with a cargurator that is delapidated and you don't care cuh about anymore listen up (though you may have heard it):

Go about 50 down a country road (with a good width), kill the engine but pump the gas even while the engine's off. Because it has a carburato, it will still put gas in the engine. Then trun her back on a watch flames shoot far out the tail pipe.

Warning: people weak of heart or money should not do this.

When I was a kid we had 1966 Cadillac Sedan Deville that hit 528,000 miles before we sold it.We drove that thing everywhere. Not bad at all for a '66.

I've heard the same thing, except it was about a guy who worked for some company that required a lot and bought a 1990 Honda Accord. Drove it around the country a lot. Had the Honda dealership do oil changes and regular check ups on the car. Then when it was close to 999,999 mi. he took it to the Honda factory nearest to him and told the corperate exec there he could put the millionth mile on it. They bought the car from him for the original pice, gave him a new one, kept the other one to run test on it and put it in an exibit in the factory or something.

my dad has a '92 beater volvo 940 turbo, it has 198,300 miles and still runs pretty good, every now and then it needs to go to the shop for some minor maintenance, but it still gets us around town

Re: What's the most miles someone you know ever put on a car?

i owned a 1988 buick park avenue, I got about 290,000 miles on it, and it wasn't babied. i did very little maintenance, and drove it hard. after a few too many reverse neutral drop 180's (definately don't recomend doing those for anybody who likes their car) the tranny went out. but the engine was still running as good as new. those 3800's are indestructable.
