Hey, i feel kind of dumb asking this question but what are the upsides to the LS model. I recently bought a 1995 LS for my first car before I knew the differen't models and that the gsr had more hp and a higher redline. I was just wondering how much worse the LS is then a gsr. Is there anything that the LS is better at ? Should i just sell my LS and throw some more money down at get a gsr... I already invested 500$ on a new master cylinder and 1k on a system and bought new rotors but now im thinking an Ls might not be the car to mod out.
Thanks : ) |

To my knowledge the LS engine has two really good options. VTEC head and they are a better engine to turbo.

Re: Upsides to LS ?
LS aren't VTEC, sorry bro.
To answer the question, The LS has a better torque curve for daily driving than a GSR. In other words, you spend more time in higher rpms to get that better power. The transmissions have the same 1st and 2nd gear ratios. The final drive is a little less stout in an LS. However, That gearing allows for a greater absolute top speed (but the engine doesn't have the power to reach it) and lower rpms when cruising at highway speed. In all honesty, if you've got $1000 in a system with heavy components, are you really looking that tiny bit of lost horsepower? Taking your sub box out will make the car instantly faster! |

Re: Upsides to LS ?
Well, if you really want to get technical LSVTEC isn't a good option. A welldone conversion will net you about 10-15whp more than a B18C1 swap and cost a good bit more. The problem is that you still have the LS tranny and bottom end. So still no revving above 7500. Even worse... few shop really know how to do a good conversion and make the head fit like it should. A poorly constructed LSVTEC will be prone to headgasket failures. An inexperienced driver will put holes in the cylindars thinking he can rev to 9000rpms.
I didn't mean to start an arguement. Sorry for misunderstanding your original post. |

on topic: the ls is a fine base, and think of it this way. in a race w/ a gsr, stock vs stock (and equal drivers), u'll pull in 1st gear, lose a little of ur lead in 2nd (maybe pull a bit), then get left behind in 3rd. this has to do w/ wut JDMDB7 said (torque curve.) IMO: turbo is the way to go w/ the b18b1. by far the best/cheapest power (other than nitrous.)
