Question for a Pro

I own a 97 TA, Just recently both headlight started making a grinding noise for about five sec. after i turn the headlight off. They go up and down fine not like the gears are stripped, it is more like they dont know they are closed and keep trying. My radiator fan also quit working. i wired it to a switch for now but i dont like the idea of having to watch it all the time. The fan still works but i dont know what to replace. Is this being caused by the same thing like a bad relay or any ideas?

Re: Question for a Pro

Well my freinds 94' firebird lights went up and down fine also like that and made the noise just like you are saying, and it was the gears... As for the fans, it might be the fan relay, temp. swith that they work off of. U know they dont kick on till the car gets to like 210 or something. The fans have 2 speeds..low and high..well the low speed comes on around 210 and the high speed around 238 or something like that so I just wired my own switch in sequence with the relay so that it will still operates normally but at the same time i can turn the fans on high speed whenever I want with a switch I mounted under the dash. Kinda like the SLP fan switch but mine was only bout 5 bucks instead of 70 and its the exact same thing...

From what i have read i think you are right about the gears going bad. When i bought the car it already had the fan switch installed. but when i flip it only one fan will kick in. how did you wire yours so that they both would kick on. Also why did you run the switch is it expensive for a new relay?

Re: Question for a Pro

my relay still works so if the car gets hot the fan will kick on, on its own...but i can also control it manually at the same time. If I am racing or if it is hot out I just flip it on so It will keep me cool. Is your check engine light on at all.

Re: Question for a Pro

Thats wierd...changin the MAF shouldnt affect the fan I wouldnt think. I have messed around with differnt MAF's and mine is still working. It may have been a coincidence. Well, cant think of anything off the top of my head other than change out the relays and see if it works if it does then great...if not then we try something else...

Re: Question for a Pro

sorry if i was unclear, changing the maf didn't cause my fan to quit working. I was referring to my check engine light going off when i replaced the maf. I have found three relays that lead to my fans. the fans do not kick on at any temp. automatically. do you know which one it might be or if there is any way to test them with out buying them one at a time
