'96 Camry dash warning light. What is this?

Of cource, now I that need the manual I can't find it...

Lower left side on dash warning light came on today, seems like a rear-light (or brakes?) warning of some sort (displays the car, 3 lines extending out of left rear side, 3 lines extending out of right rear side).

It's repeatable, it comes on the first time I hit the brakes after starting the car, and stays on all the time after that point.

Any ideas? thank you

I have a 99 and it has the same feature. What it's supposed to mean is that one of your bulbs in the back of the car is burnt out. It don't specify which one, but it could be any bulb in the back of the car. Sometimes, in some cases, the light comes on even if there is no problem with the bulbs, and this is what my Camry does.

And also remember your middle "third" brake light.

It does mean the brake lights,but on mine it wasn't apparent at first because it was a bad connection between the bulb and socket that only acted-up when cold.

it's a good thing you mentioned that, I was staring at left/right lights saying, "that's not it...".

Yes, center brake light is out. Dealer is closed today/tomorrow, I'll drive by on Tue morning to get a spare light bulb. Any ideas on how to open the center brake assembly? I just looked at it briefly, I didn't see an obvious opening anywhere...do you get to it from the trunk or from inside the car?

You get from the trunk.Look under the shelf and you'll see the clips.

Yes, there are retainer clips underneath the deck panel inside the trunk. In some cases, there are screws underneath the deck instead of retainer clips, and there might be both, just look around carefully, to make sure you don't break anything.
