JL subs...what should i do?
i am going to purchase some subs for my car and i have limited it down 3 ways. i have a little car so i really dont need what im going to get but i just want it to sound real good...i already have my speakers and all i need are subs...and my decision is between these three:
3 12" JL W0 subs 2 12" JL W3V2 subs 2 10" JL W6V2 subs my decision's based on those. please give me ur oponion on what i should get...and also, if you dont mind, tell my why you chose that decision...thanks a lot... Joel |

Re: JL subs...what should i do?
I love your ideas, I like the w6v2s (I heard and like), but I was wondering if you were up for options outside of JL? If so, I hate to make this sound like an on going idea, but Elemental Designs makes a subwoofer equal to the w7 which is an awesome subwoofer and is a good deal cheaper. Ok, 2 10 w6v2, I am assuming will cost about 600 dollars. Well 2 e12a.22 will cost you about the same and will handle more power and pound louder and cleaner and also comes with a 3 year warranty and great customer service. No offense to the w6v2, but it is not up to par with an e12a.22 or a w7. Now after that, if you are a JL addict, why not just pick up a single 13" w7?

well put haibane, i believe you will be more pleased with the ed's, and i don't see how he is addicted to jl when there is better out there. there are more companies better than jl, like: image dynamics, adire, resonant engineering(only if you wnat it loud), and many others, i guess jl is just more popular because its mainstream or something.
and if you're gonna get high quality subs you need a high quality amp, what were u looking into, or if you already have on what do u have?

Re: JL subs...what should i do?
I would have to say, JL, Ed are on the same level. Adire might be better and ID is only better sounding, I doubt it is louder. (Screw english)

well, i'd say that ed is slightly better than all of them for sq but i think that adire=image dynamics.
and of course i am not considering the all mighty brahma, it would win in the sq and spl category. in fact i would have to say that you should go with 1 15inch brahma ported it will get hella loud, with a jbl bp1200.1, and that is under 700$ for suba and amp. if i could afford it thats what i would do.

hey, thanks for your replys. well, the main reason that i want to go with jl is becuase one of my friends just got a pair of 3 jl 12 w0's and they sound real good. i just cant imagine how the w7 would sound after hearing the w0'...but anywayz...ok, i dont have to go with jl, i wouldnt mind getting something else but i have never heard of a lot of the others that youve named. if you could leave me some information on these, like elemental designs...those sorta caught my attention...but thanks for you help....

Re: JL subs...what should i do?
Well no offense but w0's sound like crap. I've owned them, I know. Your friend's setup probably gets loud, but no louder than a good 15 or pair of any decent 12's would get. Check out:
Adire Audio Resonant Engineering Elemental Designs Image Dynamics Stereo Integrity

Re: JL subs...what should i do?
JL isn't bad, they're just overpriced
The w0 is the bottom of the line, and if they were priced like any bottom of the line product should be, they wouldn't be bad for the money. But how it is, for the price of a w0 you can get something equivalent to a w6, for the price of a w3 you can get something knocking on the w7's door. 4-500 for the sub(s) and amp? a pair of ported e12k's on a 1000x1 amp would probably work well. I have a friend with 2 sealed e12k's on a JBL 600.1 and they get very loud and still sound pretty good.

that souds like a good setup to me, the ed's and jbl amp.
and just because you haven't heard of a company doesn't mean it isn't good, that seems to be the common misconception, like at car shows, etc...

Re: JL subs...what should i do?
I would put the W7 over all the other subs in tems of Sound quality (objectively, not subjectively).
But for value, the Stereo Integrity Magnum or the E15a. If price isn't a factor, get the W7. If it is, get something else. I would rate the IDMAX from image dynamics, just under the brahma.

at [relatively] low volumes yes for the price of a W7 though, you could get a pair of good 12's or a 15" brahma or xxx. Any of these alternatives will get louder than a W7, and at high SPL will be cleaner sounding (less excursion, less THD)
