Mevi?

Can anyone tell me what a MEVI is? I have seen reference to it in a few different places, but cannot seem to find a source of information about it.

Re: Mevi?

it's a variable intake manifold. 4th gen maxes(95-99) have a single intake runner. it only gives strong power delivery up to like 4K rpm. in a 5th gen+ (2k+) with MEVI, it switches to the second intake runner at 4k rpm to give more power delivery on the top end so you have nice pull all the way to redline.

Is it true that a MEVI will actually cut the power on the 4th generation in certain parts of the powerband, or was that just a false rumor?

Re: Mevi?

i don't think it would, i've never heard that. i have heard that with a well programmed ECU you can get a 7200 rpm redline with one.

Re: Mevi?

There is a power loss in the midrange. I think with a ECU and a Y pipe you'd be ok though. We'll find out this spring when I get mine.
An ECU with an extended redline(like BP was talking about) allows the MEVI to stay open longer so you can get the power for a longer period of time. SO basically, you'd be getting the 25-30 horse from 5200 to 7200 instead of from 52-6600. But i guess you can set the mevi to open whenever you want, but I've read that 52-5400 is the optimal point.

Re: Mevi?

Nice.

Now, is this what i've seen advertised on the Courtesy Nissan webpage? Variable Intake Runners and stuff? It's ECU Controlled?

Courtesy Nissan doesnt offer too much information on the whole shi-bang. Where could I go to find it out?

Word.

Re: Mevi?

Yes, Courtesy does sell it. Its not the complete kit though, there are still a few parts you need.
The MEVI is controlled by RPMs. You have to buy a switch that wires into the ECU. The switch is then set to activate at a certain RPM thus opening up the MEVI. There used to be a MEVI Faq on maxima.org. I'm not sure if its still there, but you can get some good info from there.
