Auto-Transmission Mod
... For those of us stuck with automatic transmissions, there's a plug you disconnect which regulates the line pressure found on the driver's side of the engine bay (right along the top for s13s)... disconnecting it keeps line pressure on full at all times..
http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/...r03/ask_sarah/ (Drop resistor mod from maxima.org) This was up on www.240sx.org before they started having problems with their install page. I just posted this because it looks like this mod has 100% no negative side-effects... and may actually be better for the transmission, let alone performance. Enjoy |

Re: Auto-Transmission Mod
or you could have just bought a 5 speed in the first place and then you wouldn't have this problem
hehe j/k.. I've heard of this being done but I've never actually ridden in a 240 with it unplugged so I can't vouch for what it feels like. If anybody does it, post up the results.

LOL... exactly why I posted the link... it doesn't harm anything at all! No extra transmission oil is "burned" off or seals aren't worn out any more than the usual. According to that site, it's actually better for your transmission to be kept on full line pressure to reduce slippage which is what causes heat and wear/tear on the transmission.
There was a thread about this long ago (240sx vs. Mustang something like) that, debating if this mod was harmful or not. It's mainly for comfort purposes and "SR20DETPOWER" asked his dad (licensed mech. who works on transmissions all the time) and he agreed that it is in fact harmless. Anybody actually encounter problems with this? Or are you all 5-speeds... :P

Re: Re: Auto-Transmission Mod
it jolts when it shifts thats it, its like shifting with a manual just dropping the clutch....
its stupid and pointless, and the jolt can be annoying.....the regulator is there to have it shift smoothly... i disconected mine for 3 hours then i put it back in and never touched the thing....

Supposedly it shifts faster and gets you better gas mileage. It was posted as a freebie performance mod on 240sx.org and maxima.org and can be found in plenty of other places. It's all explained in the first link I posted. I just brought it up to dispel any doubts about it harming the transmission.

Re: Auto-Transmission Mod
hmm there's a jolt whenever my auto shifts, it's not a very smooth ride. Also i get pretty good gas mileage, on a full tank I get around 270 miles, around 21.5 mpg. Maybe when I bought my car used it was already unplugged

Re: Re: Auto-Transmission Mod
plug it back in, its soo much smoother, when its unplugged feels like ur in the car with someone who cant shift....and i dont think it helps gas mileage

Re: Auto-Transmission Mod
It Does Lower Gas Milage Signficantly, Because It Holds The Gears Alot Longer. It Does Make The Cars Downshifts Faster And Will Hold A Gear At Full Throttle Until The Limiter.
I Have A Shift Kit From The Hardbodies And This Done On My Car And It Slams Gears And Breaks Tires Rather Easily, The Only Down Side To This Is Its Complete Unpredictability In Turns And Rain. I've Done Quite A Few 360s Because It Decided To Down Shift From 2k In Second Into Like 5800 In First, Spinning Tires And Then Eventually The Car. |
