944 tuning

greetings. i have recently purchased a stock '84 944, and i love the car dearly, but let's face it, they aren't the fastest cars on the street. with a fairly tight budget in mind, what would you suggest doing to it to increase HP/performance? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 944 tuning

what i did to get some cheap HP was first, i put in a K&N filter.then i put a throttle response cam into it (doesn't give more HP but it gives the car better respone to the gas pedal). i also chipped it, but my chip only raised the rev limiter to 7500 RPM (or somthing like that) and added like 3-5 HP. i put bosch platinum 4 pronged sparkplugs. i have heard of people taking out the power steering system, but i wouldn't like to have to wrench on my steering wheel to turn at low speeds. i was going to take out my a/c but i couldn't get the a/c delete bracket in time before my a/c compressor blew. you can always put in bigger fuel injectors, but i'm pretty sure yo'd have to mess around w/ the ecu. i also put a low temp. thermostat and fan switch to keep the engine cooler (i recommend this highly).
well, i could go on, but you could ask cbass or one of the other 944 knowledge gods and get the whole shebang...

thanks for all the help, YeTi. did you just throw in a regular K&N filter, or did you find the need to put a filter firewall in like it was suggested in a previous thread?

Re: 944 tuning

i put in one that went into the box...
but if you're going to go the cone route, you should get the firewall.
