rims necessities?

what do I need to know when buying rims? So far I have learned that that need to be balanced before they are installed. I have a 94 ls and i believe someone said that i need a 40 offset? I know that weight is also a factor of performance and a lighter rim is always better. I want to know as much as I can before I invest in some rims, so anyone with any advice, please speak up, it is much appreciated.

also the bigger the rims, the thinner the tire is which causes less motion between the tire and the rim when turning... so basically it will help your turning if you have bigger rims but not much... but in turn for that they usualy weigh a little bit more...

oh yeah and if u get like 18s or something... its a bitch when u run into a ditch and bend them... just another thing to think about
