The Benz-based Daewoo Chairman

In 1997, Ssangyong motors introduced Chairman, based on Mercedes Benz E class platform with Benz engine, transmission, and design. When the company faced severe financial problems in 1998, however, Daewoo motors took over Ssangyong motors and as a result, Chairman was reborn as Daewoo Chairman. Until recently, Chairman was Korea's largest and the most powerful luxury sedan(now Hyundai's Eqqus is the largest sedan in Korea.) It is also offered in limousine version. Chairman is powered by Benz V6 engine producing 220hp. Although Chairman is being sold outside of Korea, the qunatity is very small and it is primarily sold exclusively in Korea

Didn't Daewoo already have the Shiraz concept car? It looks waaaayyyyy better than a copycat version of a 1992 S-Class model.

Yes but the Shiraz still isn´t for sell I think, anywise the Chairman is, whit the logos of Daewoo or SsangYong depending in wich country.

Like I said earlier the Chairman retails in NZ for US$40,000 making it the bargain of the century

The Chairman is still being produced. Since Daewoo couldn't afford Ssangyong, it was spun off independently. In Korea, the Chairman has always been a Ssangyong product and it has only been in the few export markets that it was offered as a Daewoo. The Chairman remains a Ssangyong product.

Yes indeed- the chairman only has one market outside Korea- that being New Zealand- where the deprecation is savage as hell on the cars and they are rather rare- in fact the car initially retailed for NZ$120,000 new when first on the market- you can now drive away in a new Chairman for $60,000- making it essentially a Benz for Laguna money

They're not entitled to sell this car in Europe, I think (Daewoo, I mean) as MB didn't like them mixing the old E-class and the new S-class (yes, some exterior is "copycatted" from the present S-class) at a laugh out loud price..
