How to program remote for 99 Grand Prix GTP
I recently purchased a keyless remote on Ebay for $8.00 (dealer wanted $66.00) and programmed it myself. After searching this forum I came up with some suggestions on how to do so. The method I found on this site was for a 98 Grand Prix so I thought it would work. It didn't, yet with enough persistance, I finally found the way. Apparently, it's slightly different with the 99. Here are the steps below:
Here are the correct steps to program the remotes for a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. 1. Get in car and close all doors. 2. Pull the “mall pgm” fuse (10 amp red one, three up from bottom on right side of fuse panel). 3. Insert key and turn ignition to ACCESSORY. (back 1) a. Listen for chime(s). b. Turn ignition off and QUICKLY back to ACCESSORY. 4 Open and close door. 5. Should hear two quick bell chimes that followed by a pause, followed by two more, etc. 6. Press and hold both the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter (fob). The chimes will stop. 7. Continue holding the buttons until you hear another chime. This will take approx 15 seconds. 8.Turn ignition off. 9. CAREFULLY replace “mall pgm” fuse. (I dropped mine at this point, couldn't find it, and had to go to my local auto store to get another fuse. REMEMBER, they are mini-fuses, not the standard size. 9 Open Doors. 10 Test transmitters |
