Is a 944 the car for me?
Hey Everyone ... yep. Im a newbee
I looking for a new project car and the 944 is my choice. I have rebuilt several honda/acuras and a jeep CJ-7. I decided to go with the 944 turbo however some of the guys at the show, where I work on my cars, told me that the 944 was a ton of problems and very hard to fix. They said unlike the acuras, which we built from the ground up, the 944 is to difficult to work on and I could not work on it my self. Is this a problem for some of you? What is your experience with your 944? |

Re: Is a 944 the car for me?
Ive found that the 944 is very easy to work on, but that all depends on what you are doing. personally i think hondas and acuras to be MUCH harder, because everythings crammed in and theres no space to work. just my thoughts

Re: Is a 944 the car for me?
well, i would have to disagree w/ ben here...
i had a toyota celica and it was easier to work on than my 944... however i know that they worked out some of the hassles in the newer models (1987+) that make it easier to work on. i have had to do all of the mods/maintenence myself due to a low budget (i one broke brutha). it varies on what you're doing also... the hardest thing i've come across so far has been the thermostat and water pump. the easiest is probaly the fuel pump. they are a blast to drive so i'd go for it!

One that claims the 944 is an easy car to work on, definitly hasn't worked on one recently
(or hasn't been upside down with his head under the steering wheel to locate those damn relays )No, seriously, as long as there are no electrical problems, the 944 is an easy car, showing lot's of resemblance with audi/volkwagen models from the same years, but, do yourself a favor, don't buy a porsche with "minor" electrical problems, i've done so before (3 times to be exactly), and, all of my 3 cars (1 944 and 2 924's) them seem to respond to rain in the middle east or something ![]() Really, electrics suck on those older cars, definitly when they've been outside for some years.... (and, for the record, no, i'm not an idiot who is afraid of electric or something, au contraire, but, really, looking for stupid problems like electrical mirrors not functioning and random windshield wiper motions is NOT FUN !-) My advice, buy one with good electrics, all the rest you can fix yourself with some basic car knowledge PS: 944 OWNZ
