diesel swap

Has anyone tried to change a gas truck with a 350 in it into a diesel truck?

Re: diesel swap

No, but have converted a diesel to a gas 350, There were lots of stuff I didnt need, so I am sure a gas to diesel would be very difficult without a complete doner vehicle. Just a few things come to mind like, fuel tank, lines ,pump, dual batteries, exhaust, transmission, power brakes(diesels dont have vacuum),gas pedel linkage, radiator, cooling in general, computer(if equipped).

New diesels are a beast, they have more electrics than a gas motor these days!

Re: diesel swap

guys i see you have gone from diesel to gas. I have a 1984 dually that I took the 6.2 out of and have a 454 sitting there now. I need to know if I can run the regular vacume booster and master cylinder in the truck or do I have to use the stupid hydroboost mess?
I just drained the tanks, and got the correct mech fuel pumb and a carb for the 454. alot of exess wiring I have taken out ie glow plug stuff.

Also will the diesel starter fit the 454?
It looks like it will but I am not sure if the fly wheel is the same.

starter

If your diesel starter goes on the same side of engine as gas starter you should be fine. Diesel starters have much more torque. Just check where it mounts.

Re: diesel swap

I am good to go then. I know chevy made a 158 tooth flywheel and a 160 tooth(I think the numbers are correct). So I was not sure.
Ya and I just had this starter rebuilt and upgraded for the diesel.
