Stock amp in the infinity system?

I was wondering if anyone out there knows if the 97 golf with the infinity sound system is powered by an amp? my old dodge van w/ the infinity did. I'm installing an amp and don't want to inadvertantly cut the control wire for the main speakers' amp.
