fuel pump noise

i have 2001 yukon and when the fuel level is low the fuel pump haas a real annoying loud like whine noise as soon as i put fuel in it ,it gets quiet but the noise is still just drowned out by the fuel just added to tank previous owner took it to local shop and their answer was this is normal or all yukons do this.now is this something i should worry about or is it like the dealer said "normal" btw it has a 4.8 in it

They all do it, check out the thread in the "Sierra" forum, it doesn't always mean the pump is going to fail, but it may and the only way to shut it up is a new pump, these tanks probably shouldn't be run so low, they don't seem to like that.

A little buzzzing noise is normal, it's when it stops makeing noise you have a problem! Mine died about 6 months ago, had to take the tank out and replace the pump. Why cant they put these things outside the tank??

my wife has a 2001 YUKON, 5.3 engine, about a year ago this same problem started, it has progressively gotten louder. i suspected it was from the fuel pump (have a 1990 f150 & the fuel pump is located in fuel tank & has always made this type noise) but by the time the noise started on the YUKON the warranty was out. i have never heard this noise from any other yukons/tahoes. any ideas or suggestions, since the noise is getting louder, even after filling the fuel tank.

I just bought a used 2000 Yukon with 66,000 on it (5.3 V8) and I noticed that the fuel pump is whining. I was told that this was "normal" and that 'they all do that.' If I were to replace it would a new pump for that model not make the same sound?

my 97 yukon makes this noise also. the noise is normal... it seams that aftermarket pumps dont whine as much but why waste your time its a pain in the ass job. cyphine the tank drop the tank half way remove wireing and hoses drop the rest of the way clean tank. chemical treat tank, replace pump, jack up half way connect all hoses and harneses. and bolt back in... sound fun it isnt expecialy on this huge tank!

well as i found out the hard way the noise is not normal on a recent trip to florida on the interstate 95 or should i say auto bahn i was doing about 85 and stepped on it to stay with the flow of traffic and it started to spuder so i pulled over then all was fine then little while later the s.e.s light came on had it checked and it had o2 sensor codes so i told the mechanic about the fuel pump noise and he determined it was the fuel pump by checking pressure with key on it was around 30 psi so 650 bucks and a new pump later it waw up to 60 psi and i got a lot better fuel mileage and more power

My 2001 yukon xl with 56,000 miles just now started making a strange noise with the engine completely shut off and cooled off.
It's not the fan and I don't know what could be the cause - any ideas? should I be worried. Plan on taking it into the mechanic v. soon. -Clueless in San Marcos

making noise from the engine off? the only thing that could be making noise with the engine off is the ac condenser or lines. be more specific on where the noise is comming from dude...
