Angry 96 Grand Marquis help!

My 96 Grand Marquis will whistle when started on cold mornings. After motor runs for a while it will eventually quit. I changed the fan belt, but still does the same. Just on when it is cold outside. Any Ideas? I recently put in 4 new bosch oxygen sensors, but the check engine lights comes on and stays on periodically. I had it scanned at auto zone and it shows the same codes each time. PO 171 and PO 174. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what do I have to do to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 96 Grand Marquis help!

What do P0171 and PO174 mean? Having a code number doesn't help if you don't get the explanation of what the code is.

The whistling could be your belt slipping, my 92 did that all the time - especially when it was cold, or when I went WOT with it.

About the motor quitting, how does it run when it's first fired up before it quits (lumpy, low idle, fuel starved)? Might be Idle Air Control motor?

Re: Re: 96 Grand Marquis help!

I'm pretty sure its not the belt. You can hear it coming from the motor. I cant hear too well, so I can't pinpoint the location. The best I can rember on the codes(PO 171, PO 174) is for running lean on bank 1 and bank 2 of motor. Two for each side.
I was told that they were for Oxygen sensors, so I replaced with 4 new Bosch. Thank you for your help

Re: 96 Grand Marquis help!

my did the same and it was a squeky belt because the cold makes it hard and when it starts then the belt isnt on track. but when the engine heats up the it gets soft and goes on track. its normal when ur belt is older so if u HATE this then get a new

Your codes may be from a dirty MAF Sensor. Clean or replace it. Also check all the hoses/connections that go to it for leaks or cracks.
Whistle could be an air leak, maybe the IAC valve or you may have to do some more poking around to find the problem?
