I'm getting my Impreza 2.5rs in next week and I was wondering what is the trick in spinning doughnuts in a AWD car? Specifically a 2.5rs

You can only spin if your rear tires lose traction while the fronts have traction...if the car is powerful enough, if can spin the rear tires. However, depending on torque split, it will more likey spin the fronts first because of rear weight transfer, causing understeer. Probly the best ways to spin an AWD are to go quite fast, slam on the brakes hard (without ABS), enough to lock the back tires (which have relatively no weight on them) but not the fronts. Then cut the wheel either way. The fronts have traction, the backs don't. Either that, or get going in fast donuts...then yank up on the handbrake. This will lock the back tires, but the front traction and momentum will spin the back around...in theory anyway. Try it, but be careful and have fun.

technically, that car should be able to break out in a tight turn, if you floor it halfway thru...
the e brake technique is more complicated w/ awd though, as you have to put the clutch in so as not to destroy any driveline pieces... that is part of how a rally car can crank those tight corners... if you read the superstreet article on drifting, it explains the concept... that should be easier in a wrx though... power good |
