My EX vs My SI!!!!

This is my problem I had a civic EX, I had exh, int, spark plugs and wires, intake manifold, and other simple bolts on. I wanted to go faster and I decide to get a civic SI and fix that one up. After looking for one for a while I got it. I have the "Vector fx2" so I can get my times from 0-60 and 1/4 mille. in the Ex my times 0-60=7.8 in the SI only intake 0-60=7.7 in the 1/4 mille the Si was faster. So what is going on. I am thinking in selling both of them and getting a WRX. Or get a turbo kit for the SI. Does anyone know a good package that I can get for the SI and how fast will it be with a turbo or someting " but reall times" (I heard crap all the time about guys runing 12 sec with a turbo SI)

Turbo Si with the rev hard kit, or depending on what year 99 greddy turbo at sea level should put you at the mid 13s in the 1/4 mile.

Re: My EX vs My SI!!!!

You got me wondering now in a dead on race 1/4 mile or longer how do you think the two would do against eachother? Would your SI totally blow the EX away or would it be close?

I'm just wondering why you can't make an EX run like an SI. 125 to 160, sure its a difference but not a big one (yeah ok the dohc helps lol). What do you guys think of this combo on an EX:

DC headers
Universal muffler (maybe custom piping, I'm assuming a universal is less restrictive than the stock piece not positive bout that)
AEM cold air
Underdrive Pulleys
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Racing ECU (either a mod or replacement, remove rev & gov., hopefully something that can play with fuel ratio)

Now I'm deffinetly not an expert but I would think with something similar to that setup you could give an EX some balls, performance clutch and a lightweight flywheel and I would think you can pull some nice speed out of it, and those mods are just scraping the surface what about getting into engine internals. Ideas?

it wouldnt touch the 160hp. good luck getting good numbers out of a SOHC Vtec engine. You might be able to get 160hp... 3k later(N/A). Might as well buy an SI, its worth good money in resale value. Plus the Si has DOHC and mods respond better to it.

As for the guy only running a 16.00 with an intake.. Damn. Id tune your car if i were you. Just charge the plugs, gap them right, clean the fuel injectors, new filter for your Cai. You should atleast be running a 15.6 or so. Thats saying that the intake took .1 off your time. Are you running at higher than sea level?

Maybe not but there are set norms for certain upgrades that you can expect to get out of it, I woulda thought with somethin like that setup you could be pushin 150hp+, we're talkin 25 extra horsepower after all of that, thats believeable to me...no?

youd be suprised on how low Intake header and exhaust does to a SOHC Civic. I dont even know the number off hand but i think its like maybe 12hp at the crank maybe a tad more. but say 15hp to be nice, 15+125hp = 140hp. thats the most your going to get, 150 is doable, but thats some serious money for not that much HP, ya know?

Re: My EX vs My SI!!!!

I am thinking about a civic si.. But that is only if i can run a turbonetics t3/t4 turbo on that. I want atleast 260 hp and i want it to still be a reliable daily driver. I am looking to spend around 13k on this car i can go lower or higher. More money on the car less for mods though.. Any ideas on what car i should get if i am going for reliablity and around 8-9 psi.

To tell you the truth your average SI with like 60k on it costs like 11-12k So if you want to spend 13k you might not have much left.

You say you want 260hp. Thats kinda tough on a civic. Sure a turbo kit will get you there, with new internals to run decent boost, new fuel pump, new fuel injectors, all IC piping, etc. Its definately pricey.

Your shot for 260hp is obtainable with some other cars tho :
90-94 Mitsubishi Eclipse 195hp Stock : Yet you can up the boost and spend about 500 dollars to get into mid to low 14 sec 1/4 mile. This turbo is the 14b it can bring you up to about 300hp

95-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse 210hp Stock : Same as the 90-94 yet the turbo doesnt have any potential after 250-260HP

2000 Celica GTS : 180HP stock : Light car runs some good times very low 15s. you can find one of these for about 13k private sale. Id suggest this over a Civic Si mainly because the GTS is a sporty car, with a 6 speed tranny.

those are some cars i could think up.
