2 subs....4 subs?
I've heard that if you mix subwoofer sizes, such as: 2 12s and 2 15s then you get problems. I want to put 4 subs in my car, I have 2 12s and 2 15s, and I'm too cheap to buy more subs. Will this cause me problems, if so, how and why?

I've heard people w/ mix match size subs and it really sucked..
The only time that I have heard it be ok was a guy had 2-18 and 4-12's for his mid bass. then a shit load of seperates... so my personal answer would be know unless you were goin to set the other set of subs to ao diff freq. and not runn all 4 at the same freq. hope this might help a little.. :frog:

So if I use my 12s for mid bass and then my 15s for the low bass, will it sound alright? I don't really need them all, but I like the look of subs in the spare tire well, and I like the look of subs against the back seat facing the trunk.

personally, i would just use one or the other, the 15s if youre going for spl, the 12's if youre going for sound quality. mixing the 2 can work, as i have done it before with 2 10's and 1 12, but its more complicated and if youre limited on amplifier power it would sound better to put all that power to 2 subs rather than divide it among 4. and dont go by the ratings on the subs to know how much power to put to them, just wire em up, start cranking the power and watch for any overexcursion, listen for any distortion. when u get to that point turn it down a bit and remember not to turn it back up there. my jl audio 12 is rated a 125 watts max, i have a 840 watt power acoustik amp hooked to it right now and have turned the amp all the way up with little or no distortion, those subs are waaay underrated. on the other hand some companies overrate their subs just to make them more appealing to buy.

Well I know how to hook up the subs, and to do the power thing. My last system had 4 12" JL W6s with a total of 5,500 watts in the whole car. So I know all the basics to everything. I just need to know about the mixing frequencies and stuff.

Well what 12's do you have... are they even capable of running in the mid-bass area? Midbass would have to be run INSIDE the car, shooting midbass into your trunk wont do a damn thing ~ so you would need to come up with a way to do that... aka the rear deck, something of that nature.

So it wouldn't matter how they sounded, I would just want them in there, and to move a little bit for looks. I know I'm stupid, but I don't care. Kicker1_solo:aug2:

ive been struggling for a week now trying to figure out what to do with my four 12s.....i also love the look of subs in the spare tire well..but....alas, tis not enough space! thought about putting one 12 in the well, then 3 going around.. but that'd be a pain too..so ive decided to just make a box for all 4, 2 ported, 2 sealed, the ported speakers facing up, with the ports aiming to the front, on the bottom, then the 2 sealed in the back, on an angle facing the hatch..hopefully i'll have this done tomorrow or the next day..just need to port the current box, and add on a bit for the sealed part..
tho maybe if you're interested, ill trade ya my four audiobahn 12s for your two 15s...depending on what kinda 15s they are hehe |

you really wanna do that?
my two 12 weigh enough, i couldn't stand 4 subs. sparq is right. you need mids inside the cabin of the car. I would think most subs would not be able to produce a nice mid bass. I would stick with the normal setups. |
