im looking for a career?
i am going to start my 1st sem. at college next weeka and i have no clue what i want to study into. my interest has always been history since the 1830s on up esp. us history, i also am into cars, computers to a certain extant and playing around with a electronics, i hate english, physical work such as construction or landscaping. can any one here give my ideas on what you do , some things that you feel i might look into, and maybe even some i-net sites that have those "what career would be bets for me" type tests. thank you

It depends on what you want or expect out of a job or career.
A business degree is good in that it is versatile. Most of the employers out there are businesses and there are a huge variety of areas to specialise in, such as computer business systems, accounting/ finance, marketing, sales, human resources management. Get a business degree and you will always have a job. However, business is not so good if you really have a strong desire to do something specific. Engineering degrees are great, but your skills are somewhat more specialised so you are vulnerable to getting fired if an industry has a downturn. (Just look at Boeing, where aircraft engineers and workers have been fired and have zero chance of getting a job in their field as new plane sales are low.) Trades are always good. High tech auto mechanics is in very strong demand, as most people want to get a job where they do not have to get dirty. Skilled computer technicians/programmers etc will always be in demand. I would suggest, though, get as much education as you can while you have the chance or money. Get a wide variety of summer jobs and keep your options open for the next year or two. |
