2001 DoubleCab Accessories

You guys wanted more topics. Well here you go. This is my first Toyota truck, so forgive my ignorance. I am looking for accessories for my new DoubleCab. Can anyone help me find the following:

- Stainless side tube steps

- Aftermarket LSD, will not do much offroading

- Bug shield, is the one from Toyota the best?

- The best option for synthetic oil and filters

- Headers and exhaust, TRD the best solution?

hello im new here, I got a lot of ? about adding more power to my precious truck....all help apreciated. Im planing on getting the TRD superblower, but my ? is where can I find information about the headers TRD, exhaust TRD? please someone enlighten me.

I run only Royal Purple and K&N filters in mine. Went to those after the first 500 miles. I don't think you can do any better.

Royal Purple is good. Mobil 1 is good. Redline is good. But I hate to break it to you boys but Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 is the best oil available. Why? Highest flash point, lowest pour point, least amount of ash, smallest scar on 4 ball test. No other oil even comes close. But, if you happen to have a manual transmission, Redline MTL is a Godsend! I have done my research, unless you get your Mobil 1 for free, you have to run Amsoil.

I just bought an '03 V6 4x4 w/ off road package. How much of a difference does running synthetic make. I'm considering making the switch at 500 miles myself. Oh yeah, it's a manual also, why is this Redline MTL a "Godsend"?

Redline MTL actually improves the shifting of a manual transmission, especially in very cold climates. My '95 4Runner, I bought it new, never shifted well before it warmed up in the winter. With Redline MTL it shifts just as well at 40 below as it does on any other day of the year. I have tried other synthetics as well but always go back to Redline.
As for syn in the motor, most regular oils (Penzoil, Valvoline etc.) contain parrafin which when temperatures dip below freezing, hardens to a waxlike material. Synthetics remain fluid and therefore are available at startup to begin circulating even in very cold temperatures. They also resist vaporizing off in extremely high temps. But there are other benefits as well. Better gas mileage because the synthetic reduces friction in the motor and flows more easily. Longer drain intervals also can be allowed because the oil breaks down much slower than fossil/mineral based oils. But they still get dirty so a high quality filter is a must. I wouldn't go past the maximum drain interval recommended by toyota.

My new Tacoma is only a 2.7 4 banger. Currently stock except the new stereo add-ons. I drive at least 120 miles a day. During Rush-hour and open roads(late night/early morning).

I always wanted to try royal purple. I spent money that some of you would say "are you out of your mind?". It was about 7-8 bucks a quart. Yes mine was at least 6 bottles.

After I put the new oil in. Right away My truck sounded quieter, drove better, was running higher speeds at lower rpms. I usually drive about 2900-3000 RPMs when doing 85-90 mph (of course your not supposed to speed but you try to get home as fast as you can when your at the end of your long day too) I checked for oil burning and all that. The oil is still clean, my mileage when I put it in was about 3600 miles on the odometer.

I'll let you know what I think. I'm already a buyer for this oil. You really do get what you pay for (in this case).

I put 400,000 plus in my VW, over 300,000 on my other Toy before it got stolen. All had no major engine work done to them. After market engine saving whatever products.....work. I had a blown head gasket where the water was getting into my oil. Not anywhere else. The more water I put in was going to my oil. I drove about 35 miles while my engine passed the redline as far as temperature. and no coolant. I am serious about this. It was either slick50 or whatever it was I chose to try. My engine was taken apart and even the mechanic asked if I had any major service done. I said no, why? He said it almost looked like a new engine. Maybe I change oil more frequently but I got my moneys worth and have no complaints.
