what should i do...

ok, here's the deal, In my garage I have 2 chevy 350 blocks, one's out of a 70-some Monte Carlo, and the other is out of a 70-some station wagon, anyway, should rebuild one of them and swap it into the rs, or just do what i can to that 305 like 1992RS did to his?

also, if i go with the 350, which was a carburated setup, do i hafta switch to carb, or can I use TBI or TPI with it, I know i'll need to get an ecm for either one like out of a 350TPI iroc or z28, or a 350TBI truck, i think, well, you tell me...

Re: what should i do...

Well you have the stuff there I'd just redo the 350 for the RS.
if you did what RS did to his with the 350 you'd get a 383... I know its not quite the same before everyone jumps my ass...I know its a different stroke blah blah blah But I'm talking about the time and money is going to be about the same.

As for the TPI stuff I have no idea I'd like to know that too...
All in all just depends what you really want and what you want to do

Re: what should i do...

your TBI or TPI will need altered bolt holes in the intake if you use the 70s heads, if you swap your modern heads onto the old blocks, should bolt right up, the only problem i see is that your 305 should be a one piece rear main seal, and the older engines are a two peice, and i dont know off the top of my head if you will have any complications with oil pans or mounting to the trans. obviously the one piece rear man is desireable because it leaks less than the old style, but if thats what you have to work with, go with it. i really think the only complication will be the oil pan, but thats what we have 3 lbs hammers for but the short block of the 305 and 350 will be interchangeable. the exterior of both blocks, sans the rear seal, are identical. so it will all bolt up, and like you said, you need the chip from a 350 car. and of course iron out all the gremlins that will pop up from the swap. but that would happen anyway. now i personally would go with the 350 block, from a thermal dynamics approach, its a superior design, with more potential. but as 92RS has shown, the 305 does have potential. so its up to you. also for the induction, i would go with whatever the car currently has. if it has TBI, stick with that, if it has TPI go with that, and just swap the short blocks. although keep in mind when puting the 350 together, that the 305 heads have 58cc chambers, so if you put in custom pistons, dont get standards, cuz youll have like a 13:1 compression.
