SUV to Get 600 Miles perTank

A forthcoming hybrid SUV from a major auto maker is eexpected to be able to "be able to travel 600 miles (965 kilometres) on one tank of petrol and has better fuel economy than a compact sedan." The SUV is expected on the market by the Winter of 2005 and will likely cost "slighly more" than the current non0-hybrid model.

Given the rapid market-driven developments in light truck fuel economy that are taking place without new regulations, NHTSA should carefully consider what the true costs of new CAFE regulations would be and how they would impact consumer choices, safety, jobs, and the American family.
