Slim Jim Defense?
I was thinking of installing plates/shields inside the door panel, above the locking rods to prevent unlocking using a slim jim. Does anyone have any experience in doing this? Has anyone heard of this being done? Is there some reason why someone would NOT do this?
Thanks. |

Re: Slim Jim Defense?
If you accidentally lock your keys in the car you're fudged.. A car alarm would seem more appropriate anyways.
btw cool hatch, I like your rims |

Re: Slim Jim Defense?
I've got an alarm, but I'm taking some added precautions since my recent break-in. They didn't trip the alarm with the slim jim, and as soon as they got the door open, they popped the hood and cut my battery cable (I have also since installed hood locks). I thought about the lock-out, but I'm not so concerned...I have a few key sets and the odds of losing or locking them all in is fairly low.
I am just surprised that I haven't been able to find 100 people that have done this already.. |

Re: Slim Jim Defense?
Would it not interfere with the window mechanism?

Re: Slim Jim Defense?
a plate? haven't done that, what i do to thwart off the slim jim is just remove the door lock rod, then there is no way to jimmy it, i also switch the door lock circuit to only work with the ignition on so they can't break a window and unlock the doors, i also remove all key cylinders. I can drop more ideas to you if need be. Good Luck.

Re: Slim Jim Defense?
Tokes99, I would have to find a mounting spot that didn't interfere. I haven't verified that this is possible, but I imagine that it would be. There are some mounting plates for the power lock actuators as it is, I was thinking of going off of those. To be sure, I'd have to crack open my door panel again and take a closer look.
Starkfu, can you elaborate? If you remove the door lock rod, how do you access the car? I currently access using keyless entry, which involves an actuator set to the door lock rod with a pair of screws. I am looking to do the work myself, so I would need a little more detail...thanks for your help thus far, though. |

ah sorry didn't realize you had actuators,
2 options, 1 move the actuator to the rod from the lock to the keyhole on the outside, requires custom bracketry and a little creativity 2. go to a junkyard and find the stock power lock actuators and install them to eliminate the need for that rod to be there.
