99 Silverado Charging/starting problem??
My 99 Silverado with 105,000 miles just started acting strange when I start it.Sometimes it starts perfectly, other time it acts like it doesnt have enough juice and turns the starter over and/or clicks, much like a dead/low battery. The Delco batteries "eye" is green,as it should be.The Alternator is charging correctly, according to the gauges onthe dash.
Whats strange is I can drive it and shut it off and start it 20 times without it happening, then when I think its ok it`ll do it again..go figure. I never had the problem until I went across a field to go hunting.I didnt bottom out or anything, and didnt hardly use the 4 wheel drive.I did happen to spin the tires a bit when I first went in the field. After hunting, the truck wouldnt start and I jumped it and it started.I had not had this problem prior to that. I checked the starter and the wires are tight. Any help would be appreciated. |

I have the exact same problem on my (99 silverado 4.8L 2WD 94,000 miles) starting Jan 2, I've had problems with mine just sputtering, backfiring, and service lights coming on until the truck warms up. So I took mine into chevy and they said it was the fuel pump. They also cleaned my injectors which did a little help but I bought a fuel pump off internet and put it in Jan 2, Truck ran fine until next day, now everytime I try and start it its like the battery is almost dead-my tow/haul light is on and my clock on my radio is reset but after you drive it for 20 min it does fine until you let it set for a while then you have trouble starting again.
If anyone could help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: 99 Silverado Charging/starting problem??
I found that mine was the battery, if the truck sits after the 30 min or so. In my case, mine sat for a day and the battery only had 10.38vdc volts on it but when you start it, it done the same thing and would charge up to 14.8vdc.
Hope this helps Last edited by Bill-SILV; 01-08-2004 at 06:00 PM. |
