Re: 87 dodge caravan

It only gets power when the engine is being cranked or running and for only 1 second after the key is turned to on. The relay is located on the driver's side fender apron I think 3 from the front not sure though.

If you jumper the green and red wires at that relay the pump will power up no matter what.

Hope that helps,

Geoff

Thank you I think the automatic shut off relay is th efirst one on the chasis. This is according to the book if the book is correct. Is it the only on that is different? (not interchangable)

Re: 87 dodge caravan

I need to know how to reach the fuel pump. Is there a hole in the car's floor?
Also, my problem is that the car, sometimes, won't start. Then, I go underneath of the car and do three to five bumps to the fuel tank. The car starts then. Is this a problem oacsionated by a worn fuel pump, dirt, or something else?

Yes your fuel pump is about to go and there is no access cover in the floor. You will neeed to drop the tank it is about a 1 to 1 1/2 hour job.

I just changed my fuel pump a few months ago on a 89 caravan - The bolts were rusted bad on mine and the clips broke. Replacement bolts and clips were not much. Had to take the add fuel pipe off with the tank. Good advise I was given was to change the fuel filter. Turns out the fuel filter had regular fuel line and regular band clamps instead of fuel injection hose and clamps. Had to get fuel injection hose labeled so in a box - one place cut regular fuel line even after I asked for fuel injection line.
