Micro-fill?
Hey guys im getting back into modeling after a break, so i went to my hobby shop and picked up a new kit (VW golf) and also saw something that I would like to try. its called micro fill. It says its fast drying, easy sanding, and really light. I wanted to know has anybody ever used it on any models? like for big areas such as wide body kits and such. If u have is it good stuff? and could u post pix of the results? thnx

I know this is old, but I had the same question (I can search!). I picked up a can at Hobby Lobby (1/2 price). It seems to work fine on small gaps, but I haven't tried any large ones. The only thing that concerns me is it made for balsa planes. Has anybody else used this?

Yeah, I've used it (on balsa planes), and it works great (on balsa planes). But it's not going to do much for you in building car kits. As a wood filler, it depends on the porosity of wood for adhesion- it's not going to bond particulaly well to plastic. Also, it's inherently grainy- even after sanding and priming, it's still probably not going to yield a good surface for painting. It maybe could me made to work for interiors or underbody work, but for bodywork, you want something more suitable for plastic.

Last night, I made a new guage pod for the CLK from the micro-fill. I let it set up all day, and just finished shaping it now. It is VERY grainy. I think I'll give it a skim coat of Bondo glazing putty to smooth it out. I'll let you know how this turn out.
