Re: What The????? Help it lost it's mind!!!

Well I already repaced all that plus timming belt and exhaust manafold gasket because that was leaking thinking the ox sensor was getting a weird reading. But it's still doing it. I've never had any other trouble with this motor other than that. the car has 132000 miles on it and i'm hoping for a lot more. Thanks for the response keep them coming.

Re: What The????? Help it lost it's mind!!!

I read some post on this site and they were talking about "maybe the plug that plugs into the IAC was bad" so I checked mine and all looked good, Thanks for the tips i guess i'll have to try a IAC valve next. I just didn't want to spend that kind of money on IAC and find out that it wasn't the problem. Guessing can be kinda spendy. Thank again for the tips.

Hi There
Please excuse my lack of mechanical knowledge. but I had the same problem with my Escort a few years ago. When idle, the engine was sitting at 2000rpm, then 3000rpm, sometimes even 4000. I paid a fair amount in finding the problem, and it was sorted with a can of WD40.

Here goes:

There is a cable that you can see on the engine that is connected to the gas pedal and controls the engine revs (apologies for my lack of knowledge, I know you can pull on it to raise the revs, i hope you know what I am going on about ). All we did was spray some WD40 on the part of the cable we could see and down the idel speed went, never to rise again on its own ever gain. It was just getting trapped. I took my car to 3 garages and had a mobile mechanic come out, neither could find out what the prob was.

I really do hope this may sort your problem and save you a few quid.
Kind Regards
Newbie Sharon (spakkie)

Re: What The????? Help it lost it's mind!!!

Don't give up on the wiring yet, the wire may be kinked between the plug and the IAC near to the valve where its bent over backwards and tye wrapped, remove the tape and the tye wrap, and have close look, it only takes a little kink, and likely won't look broken on the plastic cover outside, but the wire inside could be broken. Its usually this rather than the plug connection.

Re: What The????? Help it lost it's mind!!!

Fixed, Thanks for all the help i checked every thing that yous posted and it end up being the IAC. ( $50.00) After i replaced it with a new one i like to tear every thing apart to see how it works right. Well between the selenoid and that little pin thats sapose to slide back and fourth was sticky and dry. I sapose i could have just cleaned it up and put some lub on it to free it up, but i already had the new one on the car. But thanks every body for your help. That wire thing make a lot of sense though because i do electronics and i can see what your talking about. I've seen wires like that and they are real buggers to find. Thanks for the tip, I will keep that in mind.

Just wondering why you can't spray the inside of the throttle body out with carb cleaner, i noticed mine had a lot of black junk in it.
