Exclamation Power Steering Problem in '97

Okay, again, this is my Father's car, and we replaced the alternator a few days ago, and we had a few hoses in the way, which one of the hoses we disconnected was the power steering hose that goes across the top of the alternator. After installing the new alternator and connecting all of the hoses back up, we added some more fluid to the system, and started the car. When we tried to steer it, it was almost like trying to drive an old Gremlin with a bad rack and pinion. What can we do to fix this? Is there anything that I've forgotten to do, or something that I should do? Any information would be greatly appreciated, this has been a very difficult task.
